    Nope.

Here's an extra-credit question. (If nobody answers the principle question before I give the answer tomorrow, a correct answer to this one will count. Otherwise the prize goes to whoever answers the principle question.)

What very famous monster in popular culture read Milton, and even alludes directly to events in Paradise Lost? This should be easy, since most monsters are not known to be avid readers.

Correct answer on the bonus question. You get the next question if nobody answers the main question.

Actually, Frankenstein is the doctor's name. The monster is Frankenstein's monster, who I don't think actually had a name of his own.

In the movies, the Frankenstein monster mostly just grunts, but in the book he is literate and articulate. Having chased a peasant away from his hovel, the monster finds and brings back to the hovel a number of books, which he reads. He actually gives the reader his bibliography, which includes Paradise Lost. It's not just an empty claim, either, because the monster's own narrative is full of allusions to Milton. His description of his own awakening mirrors Milton's description of Adam's awakening; he says that his joy at finding the hovel was akin to the joy of the fallen angels at Pandemonium (a word Milton invented to name the palace in hell), and he even describes his vision of himself in a reflecting pool in terms far too reminiscent to be coincidence of Eve's first vision of herself in a reflecting pool in Paradise Lost.

Frankenstein's monster was a fan of Milton, no doubt because Mary Shelly was.

Now... can anyone tell me what literary device Milton refrains absolutely from using when speaking of god and heaven?

The answer is the simile. Milton is a master of simile. Paradise Lost is stuffed with them. There are similes upon similes and similes within similes. When Satan is cast out of heaven, he is described as lying upon the lake of fire, enormous, like a whale that appears to a lost fisherman like an island. (A simile within a simile.) But when Milton is writing about god and heaven, there is not a single simile. It is his way of creating a literary divide between earthly and heavenly matters.

Dave got the bonus question, so, Dave, it's your turn.

P.S. I've been getting too worked up over the political and religious arguments here lately, so I'm going to take a break from PriusChat for a while.

Why don't you use a scalpel approach instead, and just unregister yourself from Freds House of Politics?

ok...bonus question better than nothing. the frankenstein question was easy since if you did read the book, the "monster" was one not created by the doctor, it was one created by prejudices of people. its not a horror story at all, just a comment on society. that is why the young girl was not afraid, she had not learned how grownups are "supposed to act like" yet.

as far as another question goes. i am unprepared. so i open the question presentation to anyone. how about someone who has been following this thread but has not had a chance to present a question? not required, just a suggestion
