Wards on new 2010 Prius - smaller components

    hm, doesnt the camry have much bigger electric motor? In any case, it has almost double the battery output compared to Prius... what we know so far is that 3rd Prius will have 60hp output from the battery and that it will be able to go longer on battery power alone...

    A larger ICE than current in the Prius leading to an overall MPG improvement is going to be quite a trick -- at least beyond my understanding how it's going to happen.

    I'll be very interested to read details once the car is on the road.

    How is it so hard to understand? Larger engines can be more energy efficient at higher speeds. Just change to a taller drive gear on the PSD.

    For example, an S2000 is less efficient than a Corvette on the freeway. S2000 will rev at 4000 rpm @ 70 mph (getting ~25 mpg). The corvette can coast on the freeway at less than 1800 rpm, getting ~30 mpg.

    With a hybrid setup, the EV motor will do the minor acceleration when needed... making rpm coasting even better for efficiency.
