iPhone App Gives Drivers Efficiency Feedback

    A recently released iPhone and iPod Touch application named greenMeter ($5.99) aims to help drivers lower their car’s impact on the environment by weighing parameters like the vehicle’s tonnage and the price of gas against “driving style†– a fancy way of saying whether or not you’re a lead foot.


    The application taps into the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer to gauge the car’s rate of forward acceleration, which in turn informs a series of real-time vehicle readings like fuel efficiency (miles per gallon) and carbon footprint.

    Awesome! I'll have to look into this one. Sounds like a great App if it really does use the accelerometer. Of course, right now, I just keep an eye on my gas gauge and odometer. :)

    That sounds cute, but the instrumentation we have in the Prius already supercedes anything that could give you.

    Now, give me an app that ties into the CAN ala a Scan-Guage and you've got something.

    This app is probably for those who don't already own a Prius. Of course, if you use it in your Prius, you'll be able to see how well (or not well) it performs by comparison.
