    A rumor of a confirmation of a rumor.....:gossip:

Prius rumors abound: Separate brand, 80 mpg, 3 different models - Autoblog

But nix on the 80 mpg figure methinks.

Now that now that Honda ( almost ), Ford and soon GM will have vehicles directly competing with Toyota's hybrids the company decides to expand the franchise and keep its lead.

I asked my Toyota contacts about it, and here is their official statement:

Internet rumors about a separate Prius brand are premature.
While we're studying the possibility of a separate Prius brand, no decisions have been made yet.

Man this thing is ugly! Almost as bad as the Matrix... I thought the current Prius is fine but this looks bad. Hope what's under the hood and most importantly under the driver's bottom (hint - make that seat adjustable, at last!) compensates for it.

    Man, you're driving a 2002 Prius.

Isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black?

I mean, the 2002 Prius is a dog...and butt ugly!

As I've said on previous threads, it makes perfect, logical sense. The name "Prius" known by 99% of society and with a reputation as the forefront of hybrids. Since everyone already knows the word "Prius," it will save them millions on advertising and allow them to sell numerous other cars under the success already achieved by this name.

+1. Everyone knows what a Prius is now. They may not know how it works but they know.
