Another senseless accident

A 2002 Prius was traveling north on Highway 1 just south of Fremont Blvd. in Seaside just before 12:30 p.m. in the slow lane of the highway and the driver of a Nissan was traveling next to it as it tried to pass the Prius.

The driver of a 2004 Honda tried to change lanes at the same time at a speed of 80 miles per hour.

He attempted to change lanes directly in front of the Nissan but lost control and collided with the center guardrail, the CHP said.

The Honda then continued out of control and came back into the first lane where it collided with the Nissan.

The Honda and Nissan then both continued in the lane two where they collided with the Prius.

The Nissan rolled up an embankment and onto its roof.

The Toyota was stuck and the occupants, a couple in their 80s, had to be extricated by emergency personnel due to the steep embankment.

The Honda rolled over several times and the front right seat 38-year-old passenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and sustained major injuries to the head and torso.
