Platinum +4 Fusion Sparkplugs... AMAZING!

Gotta love platinum spark plugs. these work well on just about any car.

spark plugs should be checked now and again, keeping up with that will keep your gas milage and power up.

fuel injector cleaner every few tanks (a lil bottle to a full tank) will also help your milage, it keeps the injectors cleaner so you don't get a buildup on them.

 

How much are these spark plugs?! I found out last night that the previous owner never changed the oil before he sold it, and he was already a couple hundred miles over 3000!!! I need to get my car in really fast before it stops running, and I think I'm going to have them put these plugs in too - It might make up for me going over the 3000 mile limit for oil... I'm a bad owner I guess

 

iridiums last longer than platinum.. platinum is rated for only 60k miles typically while iridium nkg's last for 120k miles.

Just change the oil and filter and don't panic, everything is cool.

 

Please cool your jets - changing oil more than every 5K (owners Manual recommendation) is overkill. Out of 5K mi. Your ICE is only running for about 3K.

When I buy these amazing spark plugs I'll also buy that turbo gizmo you put in the air duct--I expect my mpg will jump to about 80!!!!

 

Only 80? Maybe you need some gas additive too.

but seriously here, i'm fascinated by the talk of spark plugs. i need the big hitters to come out and tell me what plug is the best for POWER/F.E./LONGEVITY. come on.........PATRICK, PAT, TOM, EVAN, TONY, bring it out!

 

Sorry Genoz World, I have been out of the trade too long, these fancy plugs were in their infancy back then. As for brands I like to use Bosch. It was the quality of Bosch plugs etc which sold me on a Bosch dish washer.

 

I think he was joking about the turbo thing. Now if you want really good mileage, you need one of those magnets that clamps around your fuel line. I just put a big on on the filler hose at the gas station and that way I don't have to worry about the little one under the hood.

I assume you know that I am joking. As for spark plugs, iridium is the most dense element (effectively tied with osmium), and also the most resistant to corrosion. A properly made iridium plug will outlast all others. Efficiency is a matter of plug geometry, driver electronics, and plug condition. The Toyota plugs should stay in good shape, since they are iridium. I would assume that the Toyota engineers have picked a good geometry for their engine, and the electronics are not under your control. The chances are good that the Toyota plugs are optimal for the Prius.

You can make an argument that Toyota might use a lesser plug to save cost, but the high efficiency focus of the Prius design suggests that they would spend a few bucks more if it produced any measurable gain. I suspect the Toyota plugs are as good as you can get.

I also agree with your statement about the plugs. Although I am due to at least take mine out and look them over, I'm still on the OEM iridiums (46,000 miles) and I can feel an ever so slight miss at stop lights while still in warmup.

Have you swapped a set of new OEM plugs to test against the Bosch?
How many seconds to 60 mph (96 kph)?
How many seconds to 100 mph (160 kph)?

You may want to wait until temperatures get closer to a standard day, 70F (21 C.)

In the high performance engine world, the Iridium plugs are deemed the best.
Next best are the Platinum plugs.

I was always an NGK guy, but it seems they are now Champion, and I'm not a fan of their plugs. The plating is too cheap. When the plating corrodes, it becomes difficult to get the plugs out of the head, and that's a BIG problem, especially on a Prius, where you leave them in for 60,000 mi!

DO use anti-corrosion grease on the threads when you change or inspect the plugs. For plugs the copper type is fine. The nickel type will also work, but it's really intended for exhaust parts (it works at much higher temps).

Oh, and spark plugs CAN make a big difference. The question is will -different- plugs than the Toyota ones work better? I put the Bosch platinum plugs in a 1990 4Runner and they did improve mileage and engine smoothness. But every engine/application is different, so YMMV.

 

3000 miles? My manual says every 5K miles.
