If that's the case, then I'm fairly certain it won't make it into Canada (Traditionally, we're a lot more price sensitive than the Americans. Options made available in Canada will cost more than if it were to be offered in the US. It's been 5 years before we were able to get a navigation system for the same price as the one offered in the US. Prior to that, a nav system was $4,000 from the factory )

True (Although VSC has been offered for a while under the name Vehicle Skid Control. Vehicle Stability Control is the 2nd generation and still uses the VSC name. The latest one is VSC+. I think spwolf distinguishes VSC+ and VDIM). I believe the only other vehicle for the 2004 model year with bluetooth was the 2004 Acura RL. The only one with SKS is the LS430 and the RL (and both used a traditional twist-key start, not a push button start).

honestly, i could care less :).

But the fact that it will become standard at at least one option package means that many more will be produced and that cost will fall.

Avensis got latest nav+entertainment package and that sounds a lot nicer for me - 10 GB hard disk, bluetooth music streaming and usb stick, bluetooth on radios even on base level... thats kind of stuff i am more interested in :)

p.s. new avensis nav system price is dramatically lower than before, and considerably lower than comparable system in other toyotas sold in europe... they might be trying to push more electronics at lower prices in the future... For instance, navigation on Auris costs 1400 GBP while on new Avensis it costs 980 GBP for better system with back camera... or 1400 GBP for system with better audio system and hard drive... Rav4's Nav unit costs 1900 GBP!!!

I would rather prefer to have the possibility to use a memory card instead of having a built in hard drive. Hard drives fill up, no matter how long it takes. The price on memory cards is falling daily, a 10 GB SD card costs peanuts, and having an SD reader would make a lot more sense than having a HD that will not grow nor be replaced easily I bet... just my two cents...

COOL! Maybe it will work with blind people or deer! It seems like every year we see photos of Prius-deer collisions. This might be the answer. There's a quiet cars safety feature I could endorse!!!

    HDD would be nice.

Yeah we finally got a nav option for the Yaris here but keep in mind that the factory is a "lite" version of the full fat ones found in more expensive models ($1,200ish). There's also an Eclipse TomTom version for $540.

in europe, toyota integrated nav systems (not same unit shared accross lineup like in most Toyota NA vehicle) costs between 2000 and 2500 Euros (2800-3400 USD)... so with Avensis, they seem to delivering big changes with latest integrated nav system that costs up to 40% less than before.

there were some indications that there would be usb stick access to premium nav with HDD, so we will have to wait and see until cars are here to test them out :).

ha ha you beat me to it by a few minutes.

I've also updated the first post with an alternate link. But mine is 480 x 270 high quality mp4 as it was on Youtoobe... if anyone wants a bit better quality than your flv at 320 x 180. :p

    Cheers

EDIT: @jprates, please feel free to host the HQ version if you want to

Is it the full fat version or the lite version? Our lite version has no voice recognition or bluetooth and a few other things missing. It's also packaged with the old 2-DIN unit rather than an integrated one.

We still have 2-DIN versions from 2000. They've taken the place of the "lite" versions while the full versions have gone to factory integration (esp. now it's being offered as a factory option in Canada as opposed to dealer-installed only 2 years ago). I guess it's a good way to extend the life of their 2-DIN design.

I was looking at the spy shot found on leftlanenews.com (ww.leftlanenews.com/toyota-prius-2010.html) and I realized that the mysterious button on the upper left of the central console (the one with 3 smaller buttons below, seen through the steering wheel in this picture) seems to have the letters HUD written on it, don't you think?
Also there are two other "mysterious" things in ths picture, circled here:

    link: //personales.ya.com/marcus/imatges/mysterious.jpg (I can't yet post URLs :()

The red thing in the center console, just below the screen could be a sticker? I don't know... It is not present in other pictures nor in the video.
And the thing in fornt of the passenger? Could be a reflection of something from outside of the car? I personally think it is an "Airbag OFF" light.
If you take a look at the video, there seems to be an area reflecting the light a bit different from the rest in the same place:

    link: //personales.ya.com/marcus/imatges/mysterious2.jpg

Maybe I amb looking too much carefully at these pictures! :D I need a rest!

Oh, and Merry Christmas to all of you!

in front of the passanger is fasten your seatbelt light... it is required in Europe for new cars - new Avensis also have light (and sound probably) for back seat for sure!

you also seem to be right about other things too - sticker seems to be CD sticker on new vehicle, and it definetly seems to say HUD on that button - and since RX will have HUD, and spy pics showing something like hud box on dashboard, and now that button, I am pretty sure Prius will have HUD :)
