hey guys, that is indeed the new sks. we can verify, we've got the new venza toyota product reference guide dated 10/16/08 from a ride and drive seminar. it has this exact image (well, of course on the venza, not the prius) and lists it as the next generation sks.

"the lock buttons on the front door handles have been replaced with a discrete touchpoint for improved appearance"

Will the new prius autolock itself when walking away from the car without "pushing" the "button"? As long As i know, with the current prius you always have to push the button. In my opinion, when you are carrying stuff in your hands i find it a bit dumb having to push a button with a keyless system.

    That would SUCK!!!!!!!

People are b1tching about having to touch the front door handle in order to unlock the rear doors (which I don't find to be such a big problem) and Toyota's response is to make you go to the driver's door or dig out the fob?? I sure hope not.

I sure hope it works in the WINTER when I am wearing gloves, or worse, mittens. My guess is 'No', it doesn't look like you can really get good contact with anything but a bare or lightly gloved finger. You can always hit the black rubber button with the knuckle of a curved finger inside even a heavy winter mitten. It does LOOK a lot nicer but I am guessing it is yet another backward step in function.

What if you don't WANT your car to lock just because you aren't in it? We always leave the cars unlocked in the driveway during the day.

Ok. Then it makes sense. Here in spain is unthinkable leaving the car unlocked even for a moment!
It would be nice if a prius owner could activate/deactivate a "lock when walking away" function.

well, you might have people inside of car, kids, pets, etc, etc... so your car will never lock automatically like that...

I'm sure if that's the case someone would come up with a technical mod for such limitations. Like, open-finger gloves...

    Oh, the horror!!! :D

My 2cent guess: Integration of the black sks button right into the handle ... just to show off the fact that you have it, rather than a std version that has no sks.
