New Years Eve Astronomical Show

The Moon looked really neat the night before last. Just a tiny sliver peeking out from the clouds.

 

It's gonna be cloudy. I will have to get above cloud level to see it. . .

 

I was also reading that Venus can be seen in the daylight if you know where to look, and today it will be just below the moon, so this is a rare situation where you can see another planet during daytime (well, early evening/late afternoon).

 

Fat chance of seeing the sky where we live. We won't see the sky until February, when it gets too cold to snow.

Oh give me a break. It's 18°F here and the snow is coming down. We are lucky to get t-shirt and shorts weather in August.

Thanks for identifying the light at the Moon's 7:00 position. I wouldn't want to have to travel to Bethlehem now.

 

Well HoHoHo, I have been to Ishpeming, and as Mr. Greely said, Go West young man!!! Thats way TOO cold for me!!! Of course with Gobal Warming, Los Angeles is sitting at the lo 40's at night, 63 or so for tomorrows Rose Parade..

Hey, thanks for posting this....I was wondering what that was tonight, looked very different.

O and today was 72....amazing, supposed to be 65 on Friday

 

I missed it last night and tonight was overcast, I can see the moon now but only 1 planet. The clouds only just opened up.

 

I went to the mountain top (OK hilltop) for a view and although due to fast moving clouds I couldn't get a clear picture of the whole enchilada, those parts visible were exciting. Now to hunker down for the new year and all the excitement a declining empire can offer.
