I've never asked this of anyone in this manner, but I feel as though everyone who is part of this Priuschat.com is part of a family.
My girlfriend's niece, whom I consider as one of my own, is very sick and on life support at Nationwide Children's Hospital. She has an infection in her blood and is on multiple antibiotics and medications to stabilize her heart rate and blood pressure, and to keep her in a sedated state while she is on the ventilator.
She's only 9 years old and has so much to live and to offer the world yet. Please, say a prayer for her that she overcomes this illness.

Even if you don't believe in God or thinks He listens, just one prayer for your fellow Prius brother. That's all I ask.

Thank you all, and God bless every one of you!

    David

Amen to that, Dr. Fusco! We say prayers for the doctors and nurses just as much. They use their Gifts of knowledge, understanding, and compassion to do God's work. God likes to work through people a lot more than He wants to work by Himself.

From this RN to you, MD, thank you!

Wishing your niece the best, hope it all turns out well, had a brother-in-law with the exact same problem over the holidays, and he came back strong, hope yours turns out just as well.

Thank you all! It means so very much to us!

She is off her inotropes (medications to help her blood pressure), her labs are looking more normal, and her urine output is increasing. On the flip side of that she had a pneumothorax and now has a chest tube and so they switched her to a different ventilator to give her lungs a rest. MRSA is wicked stuff. Her physician is also trialling a daily infusion of GM-CSF to help increase her white blood cells since it has shown some promise in fighting MRSA.

Again, thank you all so very much!

She has youth on her side and that strong spirit that burns inside children. And girls are so strong, we have to be. I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us updated.

    Status report:

Tristyn is doing, for the most part, well. Her heart rate is now averaging 97, her blood pressure is good and hanging around 105-120/53-60, urine output is great(she has feet again!), blood gases pretty good (a little alkalotic). She remains sedated and on the oscillating ventilator but they are weaning her down and her chest tube is not showing any leaks. She has tolerated the GM-CSF well and is now receiving her second dose. She has been stable and we take this as a good sign, though she has a long way to go.

Melissa and I thank every one of you for each of your prayers no matter how small you may think it is. Pray for Tristyn, pray for her doctors and nurses, and pray for her family!

    Thank you! We love you!

Wow, didn't get to see this until tonight but my thoughts and prayers are with Tristyn.

After spending one day in the ED and after a week of EMT training and hands on learning, I had to see a 7 year old come in today with major medical complications....nothing can prepare you for that.

Let's hope she pulls out of this and kicks it in the butt.:cheer2:

    Update for Sunday:

Tristyn continues to make baby steps. Her blood cultures have been negative for 48 hours and with that they were able to start tube feeding and IV nutrition this afternoon. Her labs look good, urine output good, and she is maintaining her blood pressure on her own. She remains sedated and paralyzed because of the type of ventilator she is on, that's ok because I don't want her to remember this. They had to add nitric oxide (not funny gas) to her vent gas mixture to help her exchange gases a little better and Sunday morning she developed another pneumothorax, this one on the right side which was quickly reinflated with a chest tube. The swelling in her face from all the leaked air is much better but she has a way to go.
We thank God for her progress and for the wonderful nurses and physicians who are providing her great care!

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support!
    We love you!
