    All -

Been off the list for a couple years now just enjoying the heck out of our Prius. We've put on 45K already and haven't had a problem til now.....

My wife got Tboned at a stop sign today. :( (it was the other guy's fault) She wasn't hurt, thankfully, so we feel fortunate. However, our much beloved '06 Package 6 didn't fair as well. The two doors on the passenger side were pretty crunched. The glass was intact but the pillar was bent. The side air bags didn't deploy, which bothers me, but I'm assuming they'll fix it because of this. Personally, I wish they'd just total it but I doubt it.

My questions: what should I look for in the way of body/frame issues following a tbone? Any other problems to watch for? If you were in my shoes would you just trade it in (is the trade value diminished because of the accident?) and would you get one of the last '09s or get a new '10?s

All help is appreciated! I'm still in mourning..........

The value is always diminished when you get in an accident.

Others may have more words of wisdom.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Stay on the insurance companies until you're satisfied. As for the decision between '09 & '10? I am disappointed in the extreme on the '10 from what little I've seen here on PC. I can't believe they've done away with the MFD! I can imagine that my median income family just got priced right out of the market also - but we'll have to wait to see about that - I'd go with the '09:)

You bet value is diminished after an accident.
Some of this is covered in the accident with a Postal Truck thread.
You may have to pay to get a diminished value appraisal.
But if you trade in soon after repairs............it copuld cost you thousands in trade in value

Do the passenger side doors still open?

    jelloslug,

nope, doors are pretty well crunched. Repair shop says $7K or more to repair. Don't know yet if the rear suspension was involved or not. Will find out when they start repairs.

The other guy's insurance company is going to play hard ball so it could get interesting.

    Thanks for everyone's input!

Be sure you get your own insurance company involved (though I'm assuming you have done that already). You should play hardball right back; you're the injured party, after all, and the guy who T-boned your wife's car (NOT his insurance company) is LEGALLY responsible to make you whole. Your own insurance company is your ally in this matter (or should be).

Chances are that it's totaled. The "B" pillar is high strength steel and has to be totally replaced; it cannot be straightened or sectioned. This means that there will have to be work done on the floor and the roof as well as both doors. Do you have any pics of the damage?

I'm not even sure why the other guys insurance is in the game. Maybe I'm silly, but I'd have it fixed using my insurance - and let them fight it out. That's what I've paid them decades to cover...

    DO NOT give in.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But yes get your company involved.
But, it is better to have the other guy pay, no deductible involved.
If you turn it on your policy, deductible may apply.

I suppose that's a matter if which insurance company. If it's the other guy's fault, deductible did not apply even when I involved my own insurance company because the other guy's insurance company makes good any outlay my company may incur. I even got a waiver of deductible one time when a truck backed into me (I was making a right out of a company driveway and looking left where I thought the traffic would be coming from and pulled out into the path of a flatbed truck backing up). The cop who came found me at fault for "not yielding to oncoming traffic". My insurance company thought that was nonsense and took it to arbitration. The usual outcome in such cases is to find each party equally responsible. Nevertheless, I never had to pay a deductible for that repair (about $15K worth, if I remember correctly).

I think you ALWAYS should involve your own insurance company no matter who's at fault, though.
