There's nothing wrong with the tires or the car. Miles-per-tank is meaningless in a Prius. The MPGs on the display are the truth.

I experienced the same issue when replaced my stock Integrity tires with new ones last spring. Unfortunately, the week I changed tires was also the week that the 10% ethenol showed up in the gas supply, which also had an effect on mileage. I track my data carefully and you can see when the changes occurred and my rolling 12 month average started going down fast after early May. My mileage has not yet recovered. From 57.3 to 52.9 for the same period compared to the previous year.

The full data is at my web site at www.enerjazz.com/prius.

    My sudden drop came from:
    1. New tires - will hopefully improve some with breakin.
    2. 10% ethenol in gasoline - lower fuel energy = less mpg
    3. Increase in new tire diameter over worn tires causes about 0.4mpg drop. (worn tires indicate better mpg).

Both. I calculated based on gallons used in a tank run. I also used the numbers as shown on the display. They both reflected an 8 to 10 mpg loss.

I recently came to that relization. However, both gallons to miles calculations and also the display results both show a severe loss in MPG.

Wow. I'd like to know how you averaged 57 mpg. I'm on my way to check out your website.

Any thing else happen to the car at the same time as the new tires: oil change, new gas station, outside temps drop 20 degrees, a sumo wrestler started carpooling with you, you ran over a fallen tree? :_> Forgive me, but people do sometimes leave out significant details. If no other variable changed, just drive it for a while and see what happens. With no other symptoms a dealer will probably only be able to lighten your wallet.

Has anyone yet suggested that you check the oil level?

I took my car to Toyota for the Alignment. The guy told me that the drag could have been due to the tow being off. But he couldn't say for sure.

I don't know if it was just hopeful thoughts, but I noticed an improvement in that drag feeling. I reset my trip. I've driven only 15 miles since the alignment. The display is at 51 mpg.. I'm hoping it will maintain that range.

    ALIGNMENT NUMBERS:

    BEFORE ................AFTER

I don't feel so bad now. I replaced my (un)beloved Integrities at 67,000 miles with BFG G-Force Sports in a 205-60 size on stock rims, and took a similar mpg hit. It dropped from an easy 50 with the Goodyears, to 41 at first. I now have about 10,000 on the BFGs, and mpgs are steady at about 44. The car is so much more fun to drive, that I would never go back to the Integrities, especially at more or less the same mpgs as my BFGs. Good luck with your steering, alignment, etc. I have never had mine aligned.

Another reason to dump the Integrities: they're made by Goodyear, who fought equal-pay-for-equal-work for years in the Lilly Ledbetter case. Corporate injustice should not be rewarded.

Well the alignment didn't help my over-all mpg. I'm averaging about 42-44 mpg now. Prior to the new tires I was averaging about 49 to 52 mpg. I came up with another idea. I had been getting my gas in Carson City (small town) until just recently, My class ended and now I fill up in Reno. I'm just wondering if Carson City doesn't require the use of ethenol in their gas. My nex tank I'm filling up in Carson City. I'll let you know if my MPG goes up.
