It's about time. This program is about as unAmerican as it gets.

The UAW president said the job bank is suspended not eliminated. I hope the job bank will not be re-instated after the big3 got the loan/bailout money.

The jobs bank is suspended until the next round of talks. The Detroit 3 and UAW can't officially eliminate the jobs bank without renegotiating the entire contract and taking this new contract to the UAW for a vote.

There are certain worker's rights that I believe in and would stand behind. Then there are some things that seem down-right extravagant which bring to mind the image of a leech sucking the blood from the host until they both die.

Be careful what you ask for. The people in jobs bank are on a corporation's welfare supported by that corporation's customers. Now they are transferred to governmental welfare (state & federal) where everyone can support them.

Yes Jim but on a much lower pay so a lesser cost and with greater incentive to actually work.

You can't blame the workers though, they get paid to do nothing and are happy to do just that.
We had a similar thing in government here, where people were paid to study and waste time. It is because it is very hard to sack anyone from a government job here except for misconduct and even that isn't easy. There are no forced redundancies in government here, they can offer voluntary redundancy packages which involve payments of up to 2 years wages. Of course the first people to take those packages are the about to retire anyway and those who can easily get work in private industry or were considering leaving. Many people where I work have been there since leaving school and are now in their 50s. I did my apprenticeship with several people in my department still. I worked in private industry for 18 years.

Due to the economic slow-down there are more voluntary redundancy packages on the horizon.

You mean like when your congressmen gets full pay & med benefits when they retire? Or when state or county workers get the full monty too? Or the big pyramid scheem that we call social security? (only now the base of the pyramid is smaller than the middle) Nah, you couldn't have been talking about that ... That'd be off topic

Oh, you mean like the welfare we give the bankers? . . . or the failing auto execs? . . . or AIG? . . . sounds ok to me ...
