Dashboard lit up this morning

    Did the service writer explain how three (since your car logged three DTC) ignition coils could fail simultaneously? BTW, MSRP is $114 each, so its good you didn't have to pay for this repair.

    Was any physical damage (corrosion, cracking, burn marks) visible on the replaced parts?

    Had your car previously been in a front-end accident?

    I am wondering whether the problem is really an intermittent wiring harness connection.

    Nope. No explanation. The service writer couldn't come up with a reason why all of them failed. The car was running perfectly fine the night before. I didn't get the parts back, so I wasn't able to inspect them. About 2 years ago, my wife bumped someone, but it was less than 5 mph. Enough to put a small crack in the front bumper skin though.

    My previous car, a 2001 Ford Focus, needed a new coil pack after I drove through a relatively deep puddle when it had been raining heavily. I misjudged how deep it was.

    It made horrible misfiring noises all the way home, then lit the Check Engine light the following day.

    Presumably some water got into the igniter coil and caused a short.

    Well, being in Southern California, I don't know what rain is. So, I ruled that out.
