Maybe for the best I was away on business during the new Prius unveil. Us two in the same room, maybe a black hole would have opened up and sucked the Earth right in

It's actually a wee bit scary to realize that there are a handful of folks out there in the world, who have the same weird, vaguely sinister mind like I do

Perhaps it's just one person, time shared between the lot. You know those days when you feel a little slow and your thoughts are vague? That's just another manifestation sucking up too many cycles.

I used to work with an engineer who controlled all of the traffic lights in the world - you know, turning from red to green and so forth. At least that was our theory: Gary controlled all of the signals from inside of his head. Once in a while he would time-out while talking, and we new that there was a major traffic problem somewhere. Likewise, when I got stuck at a long light, I knew that Gary was distracted and doing something else. It all made perfect sense.

Tom, your friend reminds me of the fellow who was a regular at the homeless shelter where I worked as a volunteer. He owned the Burlington Northern Railway. At least, he said he did. Fortunately for him, we didn't have a means test for folks wanting to stay with us or have a meal. And then there was the guy I met while incarcerated in the Yankton, SD, county jail. He owned most of Dallas, TX, or maybe it was Houston, I forget which. I never did get it quite clear why he was always bumming cigarettes from the other inmates when he owned all that valuable property.

You mean by making friends with schizophrenics in jails and homeless shelters?

TiVo and Hulu, my friend. Some of those moments must be paused, enlarged, and drooled over forever

    (Panting, drooling noise)

Of course, I would personally never drool

Sadly, you were perhaps the only friend they ever had, at least one who was willing to patiently listen to them. It's a shame how our mentally ill have to live on the street

Well no, not financially rich anyway. If you did everyone would be doing it.
I mean when you own half a state but still scrounge cigarettes from your friends.

Not their only friend. Homeless people often help each other out, and are far more generous than people who have much more. But I do think that just listening to them was helpful. I am very intolerant of stupidity and will argue more than I should. But when I recognize mental illness my attitude changes and I am able to listen quietly as long as necessary.

Alcoholics and the mentally ill make up a disproportionate number of homeless single men in the U.S., and it's not hard to distinguish the two when you get to know them. The shelter where I worked was small, and only took single men, since there were other shelters in town better suited to take homeless families and single women with kids, though anybody could come for meals, and we got couples and families pretty regularly at supper. There was one family that only came the days when I cooked supper because they didn't eat meat.

Okay. Sorry about all that. Now you can talk about beauty pageants again. :focus:

Speaking of "boob tube" Comcast is now claiming they were "hacked" - again. A good excuse I guess.

If this sort of "hacking" happens more, I may even start watching the "boob" tube again

30 seconds of looking at some bollock naked bloke ain't my idea of a good time... hilarious stunt though, whoever it was. kudos!

Perhaps, next year they'll hack in Tom's sheep standing next to a cliff...

It's too bad you couldn't have made it down to Detroit, Jay. You would have had a crackin' time. Sitting around shooting the breeze was, to me, the best part by far. The car was cool, but the people were class (not classy, just class).

She's not really my sheep. I mean we do see each other, but at this point it's not exclusive. I wanted to try it, but she says she's not ready to commit.
