Using the collection of photos available from the Detroit reveal, I assembled a downloadable document you may find informative...

    Hi John,

I really appreciate your hard work on this. However when I tried to download your file, I got a 3 MB zipped folder.

Then when I unzipped that, I got a bunch of folders and it was not clear what I should be looking at. If you can walk me through the correct procedure I would appreciate it.

    John,

Great job on the brochure. I was able to easily save as a PDF file.

Thank you for your hard work.

You have to rename the extension from ZIP to DOCX.

That new office format saves the document as a project, leaving individual files within intact. So, if you go into the media folder, you'll discover that you actually downloaded an album of photos. Cool, eh?

You're welcome. And believe it or not, I heard that quite a few times while in Detroit.

It's great having a passion that makes sharing with others so easy.

John, your web server is serving this file as text/plain, which it isn't. It should be, and I apologise for the length of this:

    application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document

See Register File Extensions on Third-Party Servers on Microsoft TechNet for details.

    Hi John,

I'm using Windows XP, and it is unclear to me how to rename file extensions using that OS.

Thanks for providing the Microsoft link so that my Office 2003 SW can deal with current version Office files.

Thanks! And no need to apologise, since they've been that way for 1.5 years before someone pointed that out (despite all the downloads). It never dawned on me that it was on the server side. I'll add that to the to-do pile.

In a folder window, go to the Tools menu, select Folder Options, then click the View tab, and uncheck the option 'Hide extensions for known file types.' All files then appear with their filename extensions. When you edit the filename, the extension is highlighted too so it's possible to accidentally change it. (This is fixed in Windows Vista.)

Yup, that will do it. I'd suggest downloading again too. Since yesterday, I've tweaked that outline image and converted the rendered 3D text to graphics for maximum backward compatibility.

    Thanks, Mike & John.

While downloading the folder again today, a window pops up asking for the destination. I changed the file extension immediately to .docx, replacing the suggested extension of .zip and that worked well.

    John, very beautiful work.

    Nice work!

For those who have laid real eyes on a real G3 Prius, did you happen to notice the visibility out the rear hatch? How does it compare to the G2 Prius? Is the cross bar less obtrusive? In the G2, there is a fat section where the wiper arm attaches.

All I can tell from the photos is that the exterior surface of the cross bar looks black, closely matching the dark windows. In the G2 Prius, the cross bar is painted to match the car's color.

You mean the spoiler? It's the same (or at least very similar) height as the current one. The lower window is taller though so you can see more out the lower window.

As usual, John offers both Microsoft and Adobe versions. It would behoove all Microsoft users to acquire a free copy of Adobe Reader so you can use the ever reliable PDF format and ignore whatever current weirdness Microsoft is offering.

Adobe - Adobe Reader download - All versions

The PDF stands for Portable Document Format, something unknown to Microsoft.
