2010 Prius Models and Option Packages

Wrong! If the fog lights are properly aimed, it will not cause glare to oncoming traffic. Fogs are specifically aimed low to the ground.

 

Correct... people tend to use the convenient place they are mounted to place driving lights.. only problem is it really blinds people...even in the late eve.... especially when they are on big trucks!

I had some bright fog lights once that were truly yellow that seemed to help in the fog and not blind... I think the present fog lights on existing prius's simply are just not powerful enough to do much.
And if people want to get into the habit of leaving them on all the time for safety they must be mounted right downward.

I see fog lights as being useful when its so foggy that headlights bounce back in your face... the lower frequency of amber penetrates better as its a longer wavelength that doesn't fall apart as easy with tiny water droplets attempting to break its beam.

But I do like extra driving lights too.. but people have to be conscious of them being on and turn them off when in city/urban areas or when a car is approaching. When I'm in a remote forest area, I love lighting up the world so as to not miss a deer standing next to the road feeding that may be startled. We should be able to see the deer "before" its mounted on our hood!

It shouldn't take rocket science to make people be considerate.... normal headlights on high beam mode are no different.. it would be silly to outlaw them because some people don't dim them when they should because they are so needed.

What would be the ultimate is to have your extra driving lights rigged so they would only come on when you hit your high beam.. that would solve that problem.

 

Like everyoner else, I am SUPER EXCITED about this. I want to learn more and I want to know the pricing. Does anyone know exactly when it will hit the street? I have a 2008 Prius, but I want to trade it for the 2010! That solar panel is out of this world! The new look inside is super sexy sweet! Where and when can we learn more? I truly appreciate Toyota allowing this info to be posted here and the New Look of Prius chat is rocking!

My locks on my 2005 are controlled from the driver's door. It takes 4 sec to redo the programming. Non-issue.

Yes the Star Safety System is standard on all Prius'....soon to be standard on all Toyota's. There is no extra cost for it anywhere in the pricing mechanism.

I can see this being a stand-alone accessory at some time soon after launch if there is enough demand for it. Like the Highlander and Tacoma it will likely be in the mirror.

Doing away with the MFD screen where it's not absolutely needed is a neat move by the designers. Actually I view it as 'neat' and clean. It's expensive and capable of breaking down and unnecessary in most basic models.

BT is packaged in all the upgraded JBL audio systems in all the Toyotas in NA ( CA ? ) and in all the units with Navi.

Why isn't there an "everything but leather" option like there was with the previous generations?

 

There are a small number of Prius "high priests" that were given the opportunity to buy a Prius from the very first production run. They get a priority position and good pricing in trade for being the early guinea pigs. The program was by invitation only directly from TMS USA. Dealers are not yet aware of this program.

Given that the "High Tech" toys, solar roof, and nav/backup cam are all separate option packages, it kind of surprises me that leather isn't as well. Doesn't bug me because I want leather, but I can see how others would be annoyed.

The model V without any of the option packages is perfect for me. Whether I can find one is a different matter.

With all the tech already in these, I expect it won't be long before they have the current ultimate, the infrared light/camera/screen system now in the Mercedes S-class. I actually got to drive one of these (I have a brother-in-law with more money than brains), and the infrared's performance was amazing - you can see for what feels like 100 extra feet. I didn't have fog, but I don't think fog affects IR much, so there it would really be a boon.

 

Nice, I suspect your right as infrared is a longer wavelength then yellow or even red.... so it penetrates without being disrupted so easily.

 

Hi there -- long time lurker first time poster...
Really looking forward to getting my own 2010 Prius and I want to thank Doug for posting these options.

My my two comments are: 1) I hope that if I choose to get the LED headlights option (the most efficient lights) I'm not required to get the 17 inch wheels (I would loose the 2 to 3 MPG). If I'm purchasing a loaded Prius I obviously want the most efficient production car on the road and I should not be forced to sacrifice MPG efficiency in order to get more efficient longer lasting headlights. I wonder if I can take off the 17 inch tires for 15 inch tires without throwing off the navigation system or any other sensitive systems.

My second comment is that when I got into the prototype 2010 Prius at a Washington, DC Toyota event I really liked that if I get the navigation system in the car they have traffic information that will be displayed on the navigation screen through a connection to the XM radio. But I would like to know if the navigation system will automatically re route one around traffic in route.

And that is my two cents….

I can only guess about the navigation.... I would certainly hope it would reroute under the same parameters it does now... only if you overshoot by far or ask for it by changing routes.

Not sure about this either.. but I would also think the outside diameter of both tire setups would still be 855 revolutions per minute.. if so, you could switch easily.

I love the idea of the LED lights too.. just don't like the package your forced to buy with them and also nervous about longevity of all the parts that make the lights work!....
I'm sure they are prob fine... I'm noticing more and more cars with them now that I'm looking.

When the cost comes down later.. I may get some.. but for now, I just can't see the benefit outweighing the cost... Halogen bulbs are aweful cheap and possibly a brighter package.

I am on my way to getting a Package III 2010 Prius later this year and want to exchange my 15" for 17" wheels. If you are in the DC area and want to do the exchange later on, let me know.

As for the difference in wheel sizes throwing off the systems, it won't. The actual alloy wheels are different sizes, but the tire height is also different and makes the two wheel/tire combinations the same circumference.

I had 15" wheels on a VW Passat and exchanged them for 17" Audi A4 wheels with the proper tire size and had no issues for over 55k miles.

Just let me know! I live in the DC suburbs.

 

Reminds me of when I was in stationed in England with the Air Force, one of the flight line machanics mounted a set of F4 landing lights on his Austin Mini. Made night time driving on narrow, curvy British lanes a bit dangerous for oncoming traffic.

 

Will the 2010 Prius have Bluetooth stereo support so I can play music from my BlackBerry via Bluetooth through the car's stereo?
