    Spoken like a true engineer!

Seriously, I am considering Lasik. My client is dropping hints they will even pay for it, or most of it. A strong temptation, perhaps worth the slight chance of the Lasik machine running haywire and turning my eyeballs into steaming escargots

Exactly, I could watch a flickering, blurry black and white telly, and could then care less - another benefit to boozing

People claim that Jesus is the answer to every question but I think Marx has all the answers.

Owners of capital will stimulate the working class to buy more and more of expensive goods, houses and mechanical products, pushing them to take more and more expensive credits, until their debt becomes unbearable. The unpaid debt will lead to bankruptcy of banks, which will have to be nationalized, and the State will have to take the road which will eventually lead to communism"

    Karl Marx, Das Kapital, 1867

I guess this is a good enough thread in which to say goodbye to all you good folks until I return from my trip...

I had to resurrect this thread. My Uncle sent me a very funny YouTube clip as it relates to consumer gadgets. I should warn you it contains many Naughty Words, the F Bomb is frequently used

I'm going to guess somebody really doesn't like the new boxes that promise everything and deliver nothing

I've actually caught myself yelling "F***! F***!!!! WORK YOU ...." to a cheap, nasty consumer gadget. Just like that scene from Fargo.

I'm really surprised I haven't keeled over of a stroke or heart attack, getting that worked up over a little piece of plastic with pieces-parts inside. Or, maybe blowing off steam is good for a person, no matter how deranged it looks to a total stranger

If you can, ignore the main story and just read the scrolling "news" bar at the bottom. Eg "New strain of bacteria that exclusivly feeds on hand sanitizer gel"

I can mostly ignore people, but stupid inanimate objects really get my goat. I can handle a difficult problem that is supposed to be difficult, but when it's some simple little plug and play thing that's supposed to be easy and it doesn't work...ARRRRGGGGGG. Like you, I'm lucky to have survived this long without a stroke or heart attack. That's about the only time I swear.

Maybe screaming at inanimate objects *protects* us from strokes or heart attacks?

The longer the fuse, the bigger the bang. You have to let it out sometime, and if stomping on a malfunctioning widget makes you feel better, it's probably a good thing.

I love my Blu-Ray player. Of course I loved by Beta VCR and my SuperBeta VCR. I love my Pioneer laserdisc player, my DVD player and my HD DVD player. I didn't love my RCA videodisc player or my VHS VCR. The better the resolution, the better. Blu-Ray and HD DVD are both better by far than regular DVD.

Does that mean that someone should drop thousands for it just yet? Probably not. But don't think that "streaming" video or downloaded movies from the internet are going to keep Blu-Ray from succeeding. A full movie with the highest resolution and audio is a large download, and your ISP, DSL or cable provider are going to make sure you don't download very many movies, or you don't very cheaply!
