Emergency brake pedal

    Our 2005 Prius emergency brake pedal (rubber part) keeps coming off. Purchased a new one and now that keeps coming off. Anyone else have this problem? Spoke with a friend at work who has the 2004 model and he said yes his came off too, but he never replaced it. What's up with this design?:mad:

    My 2004 was missing the rubber cover when I purchased it. I haven't thought about replacing it though. Doesn't seem to be a big deal.

    71K miles on my 2004, parking brake pedal rubber still intact, no problems here.

    clean both parts and glue it on. what the heck. Use mastic, shoe goo, or any of those adhesives with 'deliberately concentrating and inhaling' abuse potential. After that you'll not be troubled again by wandering rubber.

    a bit of that super-strong epoxy stuff that you mix together will fix it up... just make sure to cover your carpets so you don't get any dripping on it.

    You will need part number 47121-52010 and the MSRP is $4.99 so you'd probably be better off ordering from your local Toyota dealer. The dealers who sell parts via weborder usually have minimum freight charges that encourage you to order a larger $ value.

    I bought all my maintenance supplies (oil filter, engine air filter, spark plugs, PCV valve, etc.) from them up to 150k miles. I have not ordered brake pads because at this rate, I won't need to replace them!

    I had a similar problem. I solved this by drilling a small hole in the right side of the rubber pedal cover where a catch fits into a small hole in the side of the metal pedal. I inserted a bolt through the new hole and secured it with a nut to the metal pedal. I also used Liquid Nails on the back of the rubber pedal cover. In the past 4 months this has held perfectly.

    Mine fell off last March. I quit trying to fix it when I realized that I don't have a problem operating the parking brake without the rubber part. Looking at the way the rubber clings to the pedal assembly, "by its fingernails", it's no wonder so many of us have lost it.

    CORRECTION: The correct part number for the emergency brake pad is 46252-68010.
