Montana's News Station - Fair. Accurate. To the Point. -UPDATE: Local emergency declared in Bozeman; One unaccounted for

Well, . . . part of it did anyway. I swilled beers and played poker at the "Rocking R" and an old friend of mine owned the Art Gallery that was destroyed. My younger brother lives about two blocks away and he said that the shock blew stuff off his walls and shelves. So far as I know no one killed or injured.

p.s. Update, I guess one is unaccounted for as of now. :(

That is really a shame. I too have enjoyed a few beers at the Rocking R. Hopefully everyone is okay.

WOW... That must have been harrowing...

Sounds like lots of folks will be working for a while to return services.

Sorry to hear about this Kow, what a bummer.

BTW: did you have a chance to see the HBO movie "Taking Chance"? The Montana portion of the movie was filmed in Bozeman, although they called it Billings, I guess the mountains in the background at BZN looks better on film than rim-rock and an oil refinery.

They are 99% sure it was a gas leak and one woman is still missing sadly. They had a terrible time turning off the gas because the area downtown is so old it didn't have all the newer valves and stuff to prevent such disasters. My friend who owned the Art Gallery had many pictures worth $100K and up in his shop. That area downtown had many artsy-fartsy shops with a lot of great art work in it.

Check the picture of the SUV that was moved 6-10 ft. sideways!

Good grief! And an earthquake to boot! What did a nice state like Montana ever do to deserve this?

    Hmmmmm indeed

There could still be a perfectly kosher explanation for two natural gas explosions.

However, my bulls*** detector is going off. You can only push coincidence so far, before saying Wth is going on here

Gas explosions are odd things. They can develop a lot of power while having a low expansion speed. I have read of cases where buildings were destroyed while the occupants were left standing naked, but otherwise unhurt.

While I was living in Kalamazoo, a work crew was using a mole to run a pipe from the curb to a house. On the way in they nicked the gas line without realizing it. The gas followed the new hole into the basement of the house, and filled it until the pilot light of the water heater lit it off. I remember see a picture of a foundation and a refrigerator - nothing else left standing. That must of been an interesting report to file.
