Data entered, numbers crunched, and the price savings isn't all that large.

The 2009 Prius includes about $1,000 in additional standard equipment, and Toyota has a $500 rebate on it currently. Comparing the two with these adjustments, the Insight is about $975 less comparing base models and $625 less comparing loaded cars. The latter comparison, without the rebate:

They should have compare to the 2010 Prius to be fair. Of cause the 2010 pricing is not available. So just take this as a grain of salt.

Actually you can get a pkg2 09 Prius under $20K with the sea of Prius in Long Beach.

Since the 2010 is all that will be available once 2010 Insight owner reports begin stirring interest, comparison to the Iconic model isn't helpful.

The title should really point out the difference. Year alone is too vague.

As soon as 2010 Prius pricing is available, I'll get it into the database. Shouldn't be too much longer--I suspect Toyota wanted to see these prices first.

Though I read on here that Toyota will still be selling the 09 alongside the new Prius...

I think this might be only in Japan. Unclear re: the US.

kind of, as Gen3 is one step more luxurious, powerful, economic and larger than Insight. How do you put price to that? Price difference between Camry and Corolla is around 4k for similar models, isnt it?

Thanks a lot! I can use the URL to make a point easily. A few things I found for the Feature Comparison:

    - 2009 Prius Maximum Cargo is the same as Min 16.1 cu-ft? Why is the Insight 31.5? Is it measured with the rear seats folded down? Then Prius number should be larger too.
    - Prius e-CVT is listed as $1,000 while the Insight's mechanical CVT is listed as $1,100. I would think eCVT is more expensive because it is superior in performance (more powerful electric motor) and more responsive (2x larger battery).
    - Spare tire is listed as $0?
    - CD Player. I thought all Prius comes with it. You have it listed as not included for Prius. Did you get it the other way around?
    - Climate Control. I don't see you price it out. All Prius come with standard.
    - Large energy flow and fuel economy display ($250). Is that the touch screen MFD? I think $250 is a bit low.

I don't see Rear Wiper, Air bags, VSC (LX lacking), Traction Control, Steering Wheel Button controls, Cargo light, Alloy Wheels (Insight LX comes with steel), and Cruise Control (LX lacking).

Toyota has never released a stat with the seats folded. If you can find one, I'd love to include it.

I did find that the stat was revised from 16.1 to 14.4 a couple of years ago. I didn't think to check this earlier because the car hasn't changed.

I give the Honda another $100 for the manual shift feature on the EX. The regular CVT on the LX is valued the same as the CVT in the Prius.

Features on both cars are not listed, to highlight the differences and keep the length of the list reasonable. The features you mention are on both cars.
