    Should a member's personal information be posted on the priuschat forum's? Usually done by other member's without the other member's knowledge or permission? Take into account that this information maybe obtainable by other means, i.e. internet, telephone book or library search etc. . .

    BTW "Allow vCard Download" is an option you can select in your "Edit Options" that allows the personal information you entered into your priuschat account to be shared with others. Check it out it sounds cool but I ain't doing it in a wide open forum such as priuschat. :nono:

    What personal information? When I signed up - it seems as though I had the option to leave stuff blank - or NOT have certain things available on the profile. So, I'm curious as to what information you're referring?

    Ahhh... thanks for the clarification! Well as I woman.. I would say no. If I were a man... I would probably say no too. Although, I voted for the option that allowed IF the user gives permission.

    I think that's how a majority will answer just not 100% sure so I posted the poll.

    I would ABSOLUTELY support that!!! Just went back and looked at my control panel. I only put birthday info. I don't recall putting in an address. Although, I did put my address in for shipping when I ordered through PriusChat Accessories. I would hope THAT information is confidential!

    What if after doing a search on the internet you could find the information? Would it be ok to post the personal information then?

    In Wildkow's usual passive aggressive way he's leaving out some specifics.

    This question arose b/c I posted 2 links to one members google data about the member's credentials as a physician...the member had personally posted his NAME (first and last), profession (M.D./gastroenterologist), Hometown (New York). I entered those 3 items in google and posted the first couple of hits. No further research was done. I didn't post anything he'd kept private (such as his personal e-mail address).

    So, if the poll were fairly stated it would ask something like "Is a person's shared personal information fair to repost on the forum?" If you have information you do not want shared and feel is personal you should not post it yourself on the forum...period.

    If you don't want your name known you can use a pseudonym or nick name. If you don't want your hometown known you can be obscure and post just the state. If you don't want people to know your job you can keep that to yourself. Doing so would make it nearly impossible for anyone to learn any details about you.

    It gives a false sense of security if you think that just b/c nobody posts a summary of your personal information that somehow you're safer than if the summary is posted.

    Be aware, also, that this information is posted only in a non-googleable subscription only forum.

    What's personal mean?

    Someone volunteers their first and last name, their title and career, and hometown/work location on priuschat. Google posts all the information on the net. Multiple web sites post the information.

    How is posting a fraction of the googleable information in a closed/subscription only forum a more serious violation of one's privacy?

    If it can be Google'd, then it's NO longer PRIVATE personal information. It's fair game! Sad but true. If you do not want personal info to get out, then stay off Facebook, Youtube, yada yada yada!!!

    The internet NEVER forgets! If it's out there, YOU put it there. I got to side with efusco on this one. Public, is pulblic, private, is private, but it's not private when you post private on the internet! Private on the internet is an oxymoron!!!

    True.. and yes... sad but true!

    I would also have to concur with Dr. Fusco - if there is anything on the WORLD WIDE WEB that might be traced back to you... one might be more careful about the amount of information that is shared in forums etc....

    My children get upset when I question them about things they've posted on Facebook... because I'm "invading their privacy"... how is it private if it's on the WORLD WIDE WEB????

    If someone has something to hide... be discreet! (or just don't do anything that you might need to hide!!)

    Case in point... I'm really a stripper that lives in Finland... but I'm throwing everyone off by leading you to believe I'm a teacher in Oklahoma!!! ha ha.. just kidding... had to lighten this up a bit!!

    I'll repeat what I said before Evan. It doesn't matter whether or not the person has posted it himself or it's easy to find on the internet it's "personal information" don't post it unless the persons whose information is being put up has knowledge and/or gives permission to have it done. The personal/identifiable information is his, not yours.

    The information that you mentioned was put up a while back it could have been changed or maybe this particular information you listed was something he did not want posted on the internet, you don’t know but now it’s too late.

    BTW, I posted this poll because it sounded like a cool poll to post not because you had your head up your backside when you decided to post someone’s personal/identifiable information without his permission or knowledge. Thanks for piping up and skewing the results, though. :yo:

    p.s. in Evan's defense he posted the personal information in order to defend a member's reputation that some lowlife's here were bringing into question, without any knowledge of this person abilities whatsoever.

    Good job Evan but good intentions can bring about bad results.

    Don't be naive information can be put on the internet by anyone. Liberal blogs are being criticized for putting up personal information of people they don’t agree with and it happens in many other venue's also.

    Just an aside the person in question here offered up his personal information quite awhile back in order to help someone that needed some medical advise. I guess the adage "No good deed goes unpunished" is alive and well, eh? :nod:
