    8. The snowdrops are almost done, the daffodils are up, and the grape hyacinths are just starting to turn colour. ;)

Flowers? You have flowers? How cool is that. We have a little while before that happens.

Generally our onset of flowers comes at about the same time that the ice breaker is no longer needed to get the fuel ship into harbor.

Water freezes? Like, outside, not just in that little box on top of the fridge? Good heavens, man, why do you choose to live in such an inhospitable climate?

Yes, Tom, we have flowers. Pretty much year round, if you count the Christmas rose at the base of the lilac. Which is also in bud, along with the roses and the magnolia...Did I mention it rains a lot here? You wouldn't like it at all. ;)

Today I saw a beautiful patch of crocuses that I admire every year.

I do see some shoots coming up in our yard, but nothing even remotely flowering yet.

I can tell it's spring because my dog keeps sneaking away from the back yard and running around the neighborhood. My cat had his first camp-out in several months!

Cycling racing season has started last Sunday! Woohoo. My bicycle is not crusty with salt anymore and the chain is clean and oiled.

    Oh, I love spring.

The bumble bees are flying about. A very nice, gentle, placid bee. We used to have a cat that caught them, you could hear the bee buzz in her mouth (we always wondered if she liked the sensation) and then she would bring the bee indoors and release it - so much nicer than the gifts of dead mice.

I didn't bother hitting the garage door opener when I pulled in the driveway.

The frozen van story, you ask? It was a function of heavy snow and a poorly aimed snow blower. I don't use the van very often; only to haul big loads. Last time I tried to use it, it started fine and backed out of the snow pile, but the steering was locked. Turning the steering wheel produced moaning sounds from the power steering pump, and the distinct smell of burning rubber from the pump belt. That was a good indication that the front end was packed with frozen white stuff.

I pulled back in before I did any serious damage, and there she sat until yesterday. I left it on the battery charger overnight, and now all is well.

I really should sell it while it has some value. I keep it only for the big things that won't fit in the Prius. What I am thinking about doing is welding up a small utility trailer that I could tow with the Prius. That would let me move our sails and the boom for our boat. I could also use it to haul our smaller boats for fishing and camping, and the occasional piece of plywood.
