    You should be able to.

Interesting you ask this question. A few months ago I purchased a charger for my motorcycle. It charges the battery at 1.5A maximum and when the terminal voltage gets up to 14.5V, it drops into trickle charge mode by pushing out 50milli-amps or so. Sweet!
Even better: it came with two sets of connector adapters that you plug onto the end of the charge cable. The first has traditional spring clamps you usually see on the end of a set of jumper cables, the other adapter has eyelets that enables you to bolt to the battery directly. That is what I used.

I quickly realized this charger would be PERFECT for the Prius! Use the eyelet adapter and bolt it to the battery. The length of wire on the adapter would be more than enough to bring it out from behind the trim into the trunk area. When you want to keep your Prius battery up, plug the charger onto the adapter, close the trunk and viola!

I bought the thing at Wal Mart. I think I'm going back for a second one.

jayman and ezw1, thanks for your reply. I do have one of those chargers with the loops that hook on the battery. I will go that route.

I also put wire sleeve protector on the VDC supplied charge harness, that black corrugated stuff. I removed it to take the photo

    I need a drink

I'm also still curious what brand of battery tender can be purchased at Wally World. The VDC units work well, but are kinda pricey and not everybody needs desulfation

Why do you want to? Has the battery been dying on you? Or do you plan to leave the vehicle off for more than two weeks?

Oopsie. Sad to say this battery will probably never again be the same. Watch for any weird car behavior and be prepared to replace the battery sooner rather than later. Further use of ACC will tend to further reduce battery life.

Unless the car is in a completely enclosed space with no ventilation, the battery-safe thing to do is to turn the car on to the usual READY state (as though you were about to drive it away) and leave it in Park. That way it manages the condition of the batteries in the usual way.

I've got the box. Here's the info:

    Manufacturer: Schumacher
    Model: SEM-1562A
    Name: Battery Maintainer
    Fully automatic with float-mode monitoring

Comes in a black box with red and white lettering.

I bought it at my neighborhood Walmat for $19.95. Really surpised the price was so low. It was with other auto battery chargers.

Hmmm seems to be a good model. It even offers reverse polarity protection.

Yes. Seriously thinking about buying a second one and using the adapter with eyelets on it.
