I did.

I would never buy a Benz myself. Their reliability at the time was crap but it's improved recently. They're a poor value for the money as well.

BTW, what did the grand total for repairs come to?

 

I agree. When living in Silicon Valley I owned a 1992 400E which looked great and had an excellent mechanical design, 32 valve DOHC V8 and very smooth auto transmission. However the reliability of the engine electronics was not up to the standard set by Toyota and other Japanese manufacturers.

I had a significant problem where the engine intermittently would die, usually when on the freeway. After some time my local dealer (Stevens Creek European in SJ, CA) determined that the electronic accelerator assembly was the problem.

No complaints about the service dept, which did a good job dealing with this weird problem. The shop foreman drove the car around until the problem happened to him, then used the MBZ diagnostic tool to determine the failed component.

Regarding the OP's personal injuries, sorry to hear about those. I'd suggest that you be slow to sign off on any financial settlement related to your injury until you've let enough time elapse so that you can see whether you've regained full functionality or not.
