needed 4 new tires after 20,000 miles

I'm searching the site today for tire replacement recomendations. All four of my OEM tires are completely worn out at 26,000 miles (about 2 years). I run 44 psi cold. Its the outside edges that are worn the worst (nearly slicks). As a side note, I'm getting the best mileage ever with the worn out tires, although there are many other possible factors (weather, seasonal gas?,...). My last several tanks have been at 48 to 50 mpg.
Off to buy tires...

But he said he runs at 44psi...so classic case of hard cornering. Cornering too fast mimics under inflation wear. Maybe the person used to drive a RWD car, FWD's wear faster under hard cornering. Some Prius drivers, to keep constant speed, could coast into corners too fast so they need less power coming out.....anyway...everyone's driving style is different.

OH, and if, when he said outside edges slicks and means just the "outside" of the car, not both "outsides" of the tires, then that REALLY says too fast cornering.

 

I have a set of stock Integrities that are up for grabs. They had about 5000 miles on them when I switched them out for a set of new Michelin's. They are located in the Traverse City area of Michigan.

I don't think it's that unusual, I to scrubed mine off in 20K. Put on 4 100k Toyo's and they are gone now also at 32K. I run 42/40 and am considering lowering it a little.

 

Have a camber kit fitted and have about half a degree of negative camber on the front. Also the problem could be the people doing your wheel alignments. I was scrubbing out front tyres on my RAV4 so had the company I had fit the tyres recheck the wheel alignment, they said it was fine which it clearly wasn't. I went to a major tyre outlet and had the alignment rechecked, 15mm too much toe in, 15mm! That is huge! I would have done better to check it with a tape measure!

Some of the new wheel aligners are very easy to damage so if the heads are handled roughly they may not be accurate.
Have your wheel alignment checked by a really good tyre outlet.

 

I also need new tires at 25,000 miles. Heres the real question that should be asked about this situation: If the goodyear integrity is marketed as a 50K tire, then there should be a valid claim for prius owners on the treadlife warranty. I plan to look further into this, because I don't buy the heavy car idea, and this car sure isn't smokin the tires like a gto or anything. If goodyear denies the claim on this, i plan to write a letter to the minnesota attorney general about it. Problem is, the tires have to be worn to 2/32nds. Its not going to be easy driving this winter on these babies. It would be a shame to have an accident just because i'm trying to warranty out my tires.

 

They'll deny it, GoodYear DOES NOT honor their own warranties or the work they do on your car at one of their own stores. Recently I dealt with them and they sent it to corporate where they sent it to an "independent agency" to inspect and then denied and claimed that it wasn't their work that caused my issue.

By the way my Integrities were pretty good tires up until about 20,000 miles then they turned slick if the road was just a tad damp and ice skates if was raining.

 

As long as the sheeple keep running at the ridiculously low Toyota recommended pressures, these tires are going to wear out prematurely. Period. The recommended tire pressures are a compromise biased toward ride comfort. My Integrity tires have never been below 60psi since the day I drove it off the lot over 23K miles ago. They look nearly new and aren't worn in the center or on the edges; even wear straight across. I have driven in 90+F temps on the freeway and northern IN's roads are heavily potholled and they're still going strong and handling is more than adequate.

 

A treadwear warranty is not offered on the original equipment tires. This is generally the case, not just limited to Goodyear Integrity.

Yes, it would be a shame for you to suffer an accident in snowy weather just because you are trying to squeeze out a bit more life from inferior tires.

If you face rainy weather (not even talking about snow or ice), I think the Goodyear Integrity tires will be unsafe at 6/32" tread depth.

 

My Integrities were completely bald at 19,500. I went to my Toyota dealer today (at the suggestion of a local tire dealer that I went to yesterday fulli intending to buy 4 new tires... good guy). Service Mgr at Toyota dealer admitted that they wear fast, although he thought mine went exceptionally fast. They gave me four tires (Top of line Yokohamas... best he has there... ) balanced & installed, for the cost of two ($242). Although he made me pay for an alignment, I thought they were very fair about it. I found the whole service dept to be quite accomodating and pleasant about the whole situation. Kudos to the tire dealer!!

 

My OEM (Integrity) tires have held up fine. 2006 Prius; just short of 60K miles; avg 53-60 mph. Looking for new tires. Looking for low rolling resistance, good mileage, and great value. IDEAS? The Goodyear Assurance Triple tred is not made in 185/65 R15. Will I be disappointed in HydroEdge or the Assurance COmforTred?

 

I have heard several people talk about how much they like the HydroEdge. If you are looking low rolling resistance, definitely stay away from the ComforTreads. The Integrity ihas a rr rating of .0007something but the CT is more like .001something. They have a nice smooth ride but don't roll so good.

 

Did you buy the Touring model with Turanza tires? Reason is that I have a 2007 Touring Model with those tires, and at 20,000 miles the tire wear has been excessive...and disappointing. That is despite my keeping pressure 2 psi over that recommended in owner's manual, rotating tires every 5000 miles, and having had initial 4 wheel alignment. Dealer's shop where I have routine service done says that replacement will probably be necessary at 25,000 miles. If you still have the Turanza tires, how many miles do you have on them? Or, if you have replaced them, what are the replacement tires?

My originals had over 67,000 on them and still had legal tread. I finally replaced them with BFGs for improved handling, and lost a few mpgs, but that's another story ... I do 99% highway driving, and run 40/38 tp. Never had it alighed. Your mileage may vary.

 

I need new tires on my 2006 Prius after 34,000 miles. Guess that's not too bad. However, having a hard time finding good tires that don't cost an "arm and a leg."
Any suggestions?

 

If you got that many miles out of the Integrities, stay with them.

 

It sounds like you and I have the same dealer, are you located in the Philadelphia area? I have 25,000 on my Prius and just barley passed state inspection. They gave me the same story. mI'm heading for Costco tomorrow for a set of Michelin X's. The traction has never been good wityh these tires and road noise has gone up substantially over the lastr 5,000 miles.

 

Yeah, I'll probably next get Michelins also. I'd like to try Nokians but their website says that the nearest dealer is 60 miles away.

 

You can order the Nokians from:

And have them installed locally. I did.
