My prius is by no means new ('05 82k), but was kept in excellent condition when purchasing it a few weeks ago. When the weather is really cold (usually below 32), there is a rattling sound inside the dash, (somewhere near the stereo/screen display) that makes some noise. It usually goes away after driving for 5-10 mins. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so do you know where it is coming from or how to fix it? Thank you!

It may be the center speaker. There have been numerous reports of them rattling. Some have just taken some foam rubber and put it under the speaker grill frame.

My '05 has just developed a similar rattle. I've confirmed it's the speaker by pressing on the speaker grill lightly to stop the rattle, so I want to add/replace foam as you suggest.

Can I remove the speaker grill from the outside, or must I remove the vent covers, front panels, and finally the top panel to access the speaker from the back side?

Easy to pry out, from the topside.

It's just about every panel in the Prius. Good luck silencing them. Others, in the past, used putty to lessen the vibration. My center speaker did not vibrate but the other front and top dash pieces vibrated.

There's a little plastic shelf in the glove compartment; mine was buzzing and I was going to grab a friend to drive around with for diagnosis but I was pressing hard on different panels to try and figure out the location and then I opened the glove and touched the shelf. Gone. Aaaah.

Might put it back in with some silicone tape on it.
