For bluetooth handsfree, it'll automatically sync. I'm sure if you chose the BT tab, it'll try to auto sync with the last phone used.

Prius Team confirmed that is already possible on the venza, and therefore on the 2010 Prius.

Excellent. Would be nice to get a list of compatible phones.

Oh great now my iPhone battery will only last 30 minutes instead of an hour. Still would have been better to have an iPod connection port or USB so you can access and listen without having to drain your battery.

I think you can plug your phone into the adapter charger. This just keeps you from having to plug your iphone in separately.

There are also car charger adaptors that use the sound signal from the bottom connector. Instead of connecting the aux RCA cable to the top of the phone, you plug it into the car charger. From a sound quality perspective, a hardwired connection is still going to be better than bluetooth.

If you have to plug it in to charge it, then might as well make it a full blown iPod port. Right? I mean, what's the advantage of having a bluetooth stereo link?

you do realize that there will be an iphone/usb accessory for Prius you will be able to purchase and get installed at Toyota dealer?

Advantage of having bluetooth stereo is that you can have phone other than iphone and it will work. You are not being limited in selection. Also, you will be able to use any music player that has A2DP support.

also, let me point "small" error in the article - A2DP is supported by many phones. Standard itself was released in 2003, and iphone is probably last smart phone that got support for it. GSMArena lists 637 phones that support A2DP in their database.

Prius III (and up) w/ nav will have it. I guess it needs the Nav to work..which is kinda lame....( sync can do it just fine without a nav...)

A2DP is fun for a while. After that, you will find that it sucks power 2X that of regular BT channel (because it actually uses TWO!). It can work up to 20-30ft away, after that the link would drop (in a car that is not an issue).

Above all, you get the FM quality (down from near-CD quality of MP3 players) due to wireless bandwidth limit.

Thanks for the response. That's too bad that it will only work with NAV. I for one won't get NAV due to price and the fact that when I need maps/directions, my cheap little portable works fine and can be transferred to other vehicles and rentals. I hope they have a decent USB connection available from the dealer with steering wheel controls. Otherwise, for a car that is so advanced, it will miss a key feature that is standard on the Insight EX (USB connection).

I'm guessing that there are a high number of Prius buyers who are also iphone users (ot to mention ipod users). I wish a USB connection was available from the factory as standard or at least as an option.

What would be really cool, IMO, is some sort of universal USB docking station that allows both charging and playing audio from a device while at the same time serving as a holder/mount. Of course different adapters would be required for different devices.

    I must be dreaming...

That's what I'm trying to say, just put in an ipod/phone/usb port and be done with it.

Heck no man, It ain't far from reality! :thumb:

It wouldn't take very much really. Most all devices come with a cable that connects the device to a standard USB port. Why not just provide the USB "mate" connection, which according to the USB spec, would supply power to the device.

I say it's *easily* doable now...
