I hook my iphone into prius to listen to some tune while charging the iphone at the same time. I get some buzzing noise now and then while driving. I know it's not the iphone or at least I think not because I drove 700 miles with the earbuds hooked up to it and it's was clear as a bell. Could the charging be causing the noise? I guess I will need to drive it without the charger to answer my own question on that. Anyone else have this happen to them.
    Thanks,

I believe you've answered your question. I have no noise or interference when using the AUX input and the iPhone is unplugged.

I hear the voice in my prius too. If I move the cable a little bit, it goes away. Since, I also hear it in my Volvo and only hear it with my 3G phone and not 1G phone - my assumption is that the AUX cable I have is not of the right size.

I got a nice aux cable from at&t made for the iphone, got it on-line from them for 50% off - cost 7.95. I think it was the charger causing the noise, will let you guys know the next time I check it out.
    Thanks

    Hi Boppo,

I don't have a Prius but I ran into the same problem with noise from the iphone charger. You can purchase a line noise filter from Radio Shack (about $18) it resolved my issue. Now I can listen and charge my iphone without the noise. :)

I wouldn't be as concerned about the quality of the male-to-male connection for the iPhone to AUX as the inclusion of a line filter. I have a very simple (and fairly long) line (inexpensive at either Radio Shack or Target), and it still doesn't create much noticeable loss and there is no line noise.

If your car is out of warranty and the dealer wants to charge you for this TSB, you can always get something like the PAC SNI 1/3.5. Works just as well, really.

How's the sound quality of an iPod playing music via the AUX port versus hooking it up via an integrated USB cable? Any difference in sound quality?

I play my iPhone via an AUX cable in my '09 and I love the sound. Yeah it sucks that I can't control tracks selection and such but I usually either pick a good album or playlist and just let it play. I don't worry about leaving my phone inside the center console as Bluetooth helps me not miss a call.

My problem was having the charger in while playing music. The sound is great using the aux cable over the prius speakers.

GSM phones have this habit of affecting speakers when negotiating with cell phone towers.

When I ran into this, I got a $7.99 ground loop isolator and posted about it at http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-m...6-prius-owner-bunch-questions.html#post205090.

    (unrelated)
Now that I look, I just remembered now that I got a snarky reply (when I was a newbie) to a feature that doesn't exist on the Prius that exists on many Nissans: automatically turning off all (or almost all) interior and map lights if you accidentally leave them on.

    Hi all,

I was able use one of those cheap AV cable with USB from ebay for iPhone. This cable had problem with video out with newer firmware, but audio is fine and USB charging is fine.

So, it is just single cable to iPhone without connecting headphone out, charges and as well we can listen to music via AUX.

Ofcourse I encountered same hiss when I connected to power, I thought it is one of these USB power adapters, so I use my DC/AC inverted with iPhone wall charger, and noise is gone. Problably this is acting as isolation transformer.

But I intent to get it fixed with dealer or get one of those Isolation transformers later.

Good thing is, I able to place it on open door of box below Audio unit, and it is very good for controlling iPhone for music and video.

Because of silicone skin iPhone it does not move at all even for big jolts. I like it....

See photo while I am playing a movie. :)

NOTE: I said noise is gone above with inverter, I tested again, it seems it reduced the level of noise, but it is still there with inverter.

guess i'm the only one that seems to think sound quality is signifcantly lacking when using the factory auxiliary input. :(
