I purchased the Grom iPod Integration Kit and am having a unique installation challenge. I plugged the Wire Harness of the Grom into the CD Changer Port of the Head Unit. I am getting Power to to the iPod but the Head Unit will still not recognize that an CD Changer is connected and I can't move to this mode.

Right next to the CD Changer Port, there is a wire harness which I removed. Once I did this, the head unit recognizes the iPod as a CD Changer! Now, the MFD on the Prius does not work for the Audio or Climate Control. Looks like the iPod integration only works if I disconnect the harness in the stereo that maks the MFD and the Steering Wheel controls work.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

Can I say return it and to buy DICE kit without being flamed?

No?

Ok.

In that case I wonder how the device emulates a CD changer when in an 07 it must be done as a MP3 or MD changer or a SAT radio.

I think I'll order one and see how they get around that.

I've never heard of this company before. It looks like they just started up on making iPod stuff. Maybe they don't know about MP3 or SAT yet

Thanks Vegabond. I am driving around without the Audo & Climate Controls working on the MFD at the moment. When I need to change audio controls and use AC, I plug the harness in the back of the stereo and I can do it ... but then no iPod!

Any help is greatly appreciated!

This guy is new to how toyota works. Our engineers had this same thing happen when they started working on it, but it was resolved a long long time ago for us. It was an easy fix for us, I'm surprised he's shipping with this issue. They do have a forum on their website http://indashpc.org/vbullettin/ I'd post in there as well and see what they say.

I will be interested as well. I have a GROM that works with my Treo phone and was installed in my 04 Prius. It did a good job of allowing MP3 playback with dash & steering wheel control of the Treo. I pulled the unit when we traded up but haven't tried to install in our 07 Prius yet. On the 04, the Treo was seen as CD2 and you could have up to 6 playlists. Actually with the 07's ability to play MP3s from CD, it is not as useful as it was on the 04 however it did allow me to listed to internet radio. The company seemed to have good CS and wanted to make sure the unit worked on the Prius.

See, that's gonna be the interesting part since you have to use a different protocol in an 06/07 - you can't use the same one in a 04/05 and vice versa.

So I got an email from Customer Service. They are shipping me a chip that I have to install to rectify the problem. Not sure what that means. I didn't realize these devices are modular. How did they even figure out the problem and how do they know this solution will resolve it. Let's see ... more to follow

They probably had the issue fixed a while ago and they shipped you one with old software on it.

I also purchased one of these units (the one for PC integration, not IPOD) for my 2005 Prius.

I have exactly the same problem and partial solution that you stated.

Tech Support responded to my E-MAIL saying that they would have the solution by mid may.

Um.. Kinda pissed that they sold it to me with this known problem.(I noted my car type with the order)

Did they ever send you the replacement chip?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(RP Prius @ Apr 20 2007, 10:04 AM) </div>

Yea, I opened mine up.
There are 2 possible replacement parts.
1 Chip that is socketed, looks like about 20 pins.
OR
The Daughter board that is connected via 3 plugs to the main board, which contains a soldered chip.

Does anybody know of something simple I can build, like a little circuit,
and attach to the other end of the Y connector to trick the car into thinking there is a CD changer or SAT there?
Or something like that?

If you are still looking at this forum could you tell me what GROM sent you? I have exactly the same problem here in 2009 with a 2005 Prius only recognizing the USB player when the display harness is detached.

When did you get your USB device ? Is it silver model ?
We have the newest firmware released just last Friday and it will be posted to the website soon.
It should fix the issues.
Anyway please use our support form on a web site for faster resolution.
