I am considering replacing the cargo mat since mine shows some signs of wear. I've been checking them out on the internet and from what I've seen, there are only carpets for sale. What I'm getting at is the carpet in my Prius seems to be glued to a particle board; it's not just a piece of carpet laying on the chassis.

Has anyone replaced their cargo carpet and did it require separating the existing carpet from the stiff backing? Also, what about the carpet that covers the small compartment on the left. Mine also has some damage to it.

Thanks for your help, it really appreciated.

If you are not picky on the appearance then any generic cargo mat would serve the purpose. I like the clear type myself (see picture below). If you insist on the factory carpet then your local Toyota dealer will be happy to help I am sure. Good luck! :)

    Hello Joe:

Hhmm....I'm having a hard time picturing what you mean. My 2009 has the carpeting as part of the hinged "lid" that covers the storage compartment over the spare tire well, as well as the left and right rear wheel well storage (the right one contains the 12v battery).

My car also came with a cargo mat, which was a separate form-fitting carpet that covered the entire cargo area. It was the same material as the carpeting OEM floor mats.

I did not see any particle board; it appears as though my cargo carpeting is glued onto the plastic panels that make up the cargo storage lids. So maybe that changed after the 2007 model.

Two easier options that you may have than replacing the carpet:

    1. purchase the OEM cargo mat, which will completely cover the cargo area, and looks just like the original vehicle carpeting.
    2. purchase an aftermarket mat, like the one below:

This mat is a popular one; it is made by WeatherTech. It covers the entire cargo area very snugly, and can be folded back to gain access to the storage compartments.

You do not "replace" that carpet that's glued to the floor. There's an OEM loose carpeted cargo mat that goes over that carpet that's glued to the floor. This OEM carpeted cargo mat costs $78 (including shipping) at the PriusChat Store:

PriusChat Shop : Toyota Prius OEM Trunk/Cargo Mat - $78.00

The WeatherTech rubber cargo liner for Prius costs $105 (don't know about shipping, I think it's included):

PriusChat Shop : WeatherTech Toyota Prius Cargo Liner Mat [W2440268] - $104.99

The ExactMat clear vinyl cargo liner for Prius costs $68 (don't know about shipping, I think it's included):

PriusChat Shop : ExactMats - The Original Clear Floor Mat - $72.00

Or you can make your own like a priori did:

Or you can buy generic from an auto parts store.

Shipping is included on all products in the PC Shop. Thanks for posting those links, Boo!

It sounds like the OP would need to replace the entire cargo flooring in order to replace the damaged area. That's why cargo liners are good investments. I use the ExactMat personally, but the Weathertech liner is extremely popular.
