But nothing is in the centre except the MFD. In the 2010 it's all off centre.

 

Yea, the Multi-Info Display is pretty wide. It is not in a focused and cramped area where your eye need to readjust every time you want to look at it.

 

I got a chance to see a 2010 Insight up close today at work (Local Honda dealer brought one in for our Earth Day fair).

I was very impressed. From the couple minutes I sat in it I can say the interior/button arrangement is just as nice as the Prius. The only difference I could tell was a small center console and half the leg room in the back seat a prius has.

However the USB connection really caught my eye. I'd def trade some mpgs for a usb connection in my prius as I drive 90 miles to and from work a day and use my ipod as entertainment.

My final opinion is that you really can't go wrong choosing this or the prius.

I'd also like to point out that at $3.00/gallon gas you have to drive 165,000 miles in the prius to make up for the gas you saved over buying the insight.

 

Talking about a large collection of assumptions.

It's best to wait until actual real-world data is collected before drawing such a definite conclusion and presenting it without any detail.

Like most things hybrid related, patience is required. Heck, we have no clue what the price of gas or economic status will be by year-end. That market could change quite a bit in the meantime... rendering differences small in nature a complete non-issue due to big demand increases.

I count 2 assumptions

1) $3.00 gas (this favors the prius since gas is below this)
2) The insight will get the expected highway milage (I am basing the prius highway milage off my own so its not an assumption)

 

That's not realistic though. Influence of season alone is still a huge unknown with the new model. Highway mileage itself is too.

Detail is required to keep discussions constructive, as well as prevent further assumptions...

SureValla, why ignore city mpg ?

 

my main point regardless of how I tweak the assumptions is you have to drive 100,000+ to equal the savings.

 

because my driving is 90% highway so for me city milage is not much of an issue.

also if your doing city milage chances are you arent racking up the miles in the first place and making short trips which bring efficiency down

 

That's another assumption.

Toyota revised the design in the 2010 to reduce the impact of short trips. So, there's no way to know how much yet.

and i disagree there is a way to know, EPA numbers may not apply to most people in this forum but they do to regular people. EPA is usually something people never see in the real world.

and EPA is all you have when buying a car, no ones driving experience will be like your own

 

Great.. now im jealous of the USB feature. I love my 09 prius I got a few weeks ago but i only have auxillary input. But then again I don't really need to see my ipod on the screen lol. still...jealous. haha

 

Is it possible to put the gas pedal in a bit and glide as opposed to coast in the Insight?

 

Yep. At the exception of the instrumentation differences, it is no different from what we do on a Prius.
