Carl Edwards crossed the 1000 mile mark with 81mpg showing on the display just a few minutes ago. At the current rate they could potentially hit 1500 miles on the tank. Absolutely outstanding.

Wow! That's tremendous. Do you know the road conditions, weather, average speed, or other relevant info?

Temps have been pretty high during the day on the ~20 mile circuit, cooler at night. They did have some rain and storms to contend with the first night.

Unfortunately I've found it hard to get really good updates or details.

I take it that is why you haven't provided a web-site reference.

I'm pretty certain this will be highly touted in the press, if not directly from Ford, but it would be fun to see the story develop on the road. I'd be grateful for further updates.

There's a thread on CleanMPG :1,000 mile + weekend for charity has begun! - Page 9 - CleanMPG Forums

But it hasn't been that active or informative...mostly just a bunch of "wow, congrat" posts. Supposedly there are updates via Facebook and twitter, but I've been at a loss to find/get them. I found the FB page, but updates are less frequent there than they are on cleanmpg.

I've been using the Facebook and Twitter links from FORD TEAM AIMS TO DRIVE 2010 FUSION HYBRID 1,000 MILES ON A SINGLE TANK OF GAS | Ford Motor Company Newsroom. Both have been updated semi-regularly. There aren't that many YouTube update videos though.

    These are not comparable autos.

The Fusion only gets 41/36 because it has 191 hp! You simply cannot compare these two autos.

CNET should stick to computers.

    Well . . .

Like it or not, the comparisons will begin. Even if you see this as a stunt, there are very few production cars out there that could get 80+ MPGs for an entire tank of gas. So they drove at 25-40 mph!? What mileage would my 2007 Prius get under those conditions? Probably the same or better. Just because I don't drive that way doesn't mean the exercise doesn't have value.

The real comparison will come when we see 1,000 people who've each driven the car for 5,000 miles or more.

Until then, take a look at the latest from the 1,000-mile journey. Here is Ford's YouTube release:

That's really the bottom line here.

Ford is attempting to trick/confuse the public (via this stunt and via their advertising) into believing that the Fusion gets better fuel economy than the Prius. That's my issue. In reality, the Prius gets MUCH better mpg.

Having said that, I'd LOVE to drive the Fusion. It's just a very different car than the Prius, and is probably very fun to drive.

I like to see if Diesel can beat it at any speed. Jetta TDI? Anyone?

I tried to dredge of the PC member's post that already bested this mpg# years ago ... getting what, 87mpg or so? And over 1,000 miles on a single tank of fuel? Makes me wonder what the mpg # will be on the Gen III Prius.

    Edit:
Here's Japan's group ... wow! Over 50 members in the "over 1,000 per tank"

    http://priuschat.com/forums/fuel-economy/31915-1000-mile-club-in-japan.html

Welcome to the club, Ford ...

I agree it's a publicity stunt but I don't think they'll fool/trick that many people. That said, I too would like to try out the Fusion hybrid and my hats off to Ford on this.
