Brakes grabbing

    This is an old thread but here it is 2009 and my 2008 Prius exhibits the same problem. The brakes grab right before stopping throwing the passengers forward causing them to spill their coffee. You would think it might have been improved since the last post in 2006.

    Improved how? The brakes grab because they don't get used. Rust and dirt makes them sticky. Use the procedure described in this thread to clean your brakes. It only takes a few seconds.

    I have a new 2009. It's done the slip-grab on stopping since I got it, 1500 miles ago. I'm going to take it in and see what they say. There are enough of us having the same problem that I'll bet it's a design flaw.

    A combination of occasional hard braking to remove rust and more careful modulation of pedal pressure during braking will resolve this problem.
