Quick question (for anyone)....do we know what we can control from the Navigation display outside of picking your CD and AM/FM presets? For example, if I use an iPod interface, will I be able to scroll through the playlists and pick from that screen like I could in a 2nd Gen Prius? I'm trying to decide if it's even worth it since I don't use navigation. I really only want it as a control center (even if it's just for multimedia purposes, and not climate control).

    Thoughts?

If you have a Toyota in decent condition, especially a Prius, DO NOT trade it into your dealer. You will do much, much better selling it on your own, probably within 2 days. I have sold 4 Toyotas in my life and always sold them myself, advertising in the newspaper or online. All sold within 24 hours at my asking price (KBB value). Used Toyotas always sell faster then most any other make. I had an '88 Corolla I sold in 2003 -- had 200,000 miles. Sold in 6 hours for asking price of $1300. Guy bought it at night (couldn't look it over) and did not even test-drive it! My friends joked that it was probably going to be used for illegal drug transport! :)

My approach is to let the dealer bid on my 2002. If I like the price, I'll accept the "difference" as a sales tax offset. Otherwise I can sell it private party.

Well Toyota answered my question of which hybrid to buy and it certainly will not the prius (currently own 2006) the way they have the packages priced. What ever happened to let me chose what options I want instead of bundling options together. In order to get options I want I have to buy Prius 5 along with tech package. I will take a good look at Ford and Honda. So long prius.:mad:

The answer is simple if everyone just don't buy the prius 2010 the way they have options packaged, they will change. Look at the Ford you can pretty well option what you want. I not buying a 2010 the way they have it priced. I have a Garmin as well and don't need nav system. The only reason they bundle options together its cheaper to assemble units and overhead to support individual options, ie purchasing, etc.

Can't make everyone happy all of the time. If you want to be able to choose single options then go buy American, foreign cars especially toyota and the prius have always been options bundled into packages.

I have struggled with this and commented in other posts. Many foreign cars have fewer choices. One example: Acura TSX has one trim level with one upgrade choice, a "technology" package which bundles Nav, an upgraded audio system and a couple of other minor features. My wife and I payed for all kinds of extra crap in order to get memory seats on our Murano.

On the other hand, the Prius packages are unusual. Nav is usually the last option. I would like to know if there is any other model, foreign or domestic, that requires Nav to get a sunroof. I hope they rethink it eventually.

Go look at Ford and Honda, and if the only toys that you"must have" are in the PriusV with Tech Package, you will certainly not find it at either of those places... And unless you are looking to spend about $20k more, you will not find all those features anywhere else. ;)

Honda uses trim levels instead of option packages.

i.e. they'll call it an EX-L rather than EX with leather package.

What if someone wants a TSX without leather or without moonroof only? Or wants the nav without the leather? In Canada, it's bundled with the Tech Package. HIDs and bluetooth is bundled with the Premium Package (leather).

prius should go the scion route and let consumers choose what options/packages they want.
i like all the bells and whistles, so i want the solar roof and the adv tech package. i'm just a techie-gadgety kinda guy....

Toyota, let me spend my money

Err, Scion has no packages... if anything, it's the opposite of the Prius. It only comes in one trim with usually just the transmission as the only option.

The rest are all accessories like wheels, exterior kit, interior trim, lighting, audio etc. Nothing that you can't grab off an auto accessory shop kind of items.

100% agreed. It is much easier to swap out taillights than to take a chainsaw to your roof and add the solar panels.

You simply can't do the Prius like you can a scion. And don't mention those two words in the same sentence. Scion's aren't negotiable...

I have two questions about the 2010 Prius.

1: If I purchase a 2010 Prius, will Toyota later modify it to be a plug in version, after it starts selling the plug in Prius?

2: Is there a difference in the steering gear ratios between the 2010 Prius II through IV models and the Prius V model? I ask because the Car and Driver first drive of 2010 Prius seems to say that when the 17" wheels are on the car, the steering wheel turns only 2.8 times lock-to-lock, whereas with other models it turns 3.7 times lock-to-lock.

    1) I wouldn't expect a plug in model for a few years yet. Toyota has said that they will only be available for fleet customers initially.

    2) My guess would be the difference in lock to lock is due to the tire being wider, and that keeps it from rubbing on the wheel wells. According to the brochure, I didn't see anything different between the V and the other models. At least not specifically listed.

fair enough. i guess what i meant was, toyota should have a limited edition model possibly that has everything.
i wasn't making a literal comparison to scion.
i will use any 2 words i like in a sentence. why are people so uptight on forums?
    chainsaw?
i wasn't expecting someone here to scoff at scion. lol

Scion calls their models "Monospec". They promote customization which means buying dealer (or customer) add ons that are mostly for appearance. They do have a nav unit that swaps with the standard audio unit and even an add on supercharger. The monospec allows them to have a duel pane sunroof, 17' alloys and directional side mirrors on a $17,000 car, a great value but no smart key, backup camera, etc.

I have a Scion Tc, so I follow what is going on. They appear to be sticking with their non-negotiable price and no incentives in this economy. Their sales are being crushed, They sold about 800 XDs last month. In better times, the non-negotiable deal worked because the spread between invoice and MSRP was (and still is) smaller than cars where negotiation is expected.

They are even trying for this year.

    There is interesting reading.
Just type in "prius plugin released to fleet" to google.

Toyota has said no, don't expect to be able to convert today's car to plug-in, even if it is on the same platform. They start testing with fleet plugins at the end of this year, using 3 different battery setups. Testing will last 1 to 1.5 years. If they think it performs well enough (reliability and long life, compared to current batteries), they may put out a plugin for the general public in 2 to 3 years.

It has been confirmed the 15" and 17" cars being produced today have different steering assemblies. It's also been confirmed they intend to make the steering ratios the same later this year.

I should have clarified my statement. For public consumption, a few years. I'm aware that the plug in will be for fleet only.
