Like others have also said, just enjoy your 2009. That is my plan and I need to do a difficult mod just to fix the ergos for me. I hope it turns out well.

Don't sell the Prius and take the ~ $8k loss! Enjoy it!

I'll take front to back legroom over side to side legroom any day. Then again, I'm 6'3".

Re: 2009 Prius, Yaris & Corolla Reliability

Consumer Reports credibility has shrank somewhat for me - In the 2008 SUV/Truck/Wagon issue...

CR reported the Tacoma as being worst for tall driver's. O.K. Maybe a regular cab, but the access/double cabs are great for tall drivers - I believe 4 more clicks back available on driver's seat and good headroom.

Personally, I think the Gen2 earned at least a mention of not being a tall friendly car given the N-HAS (Tired of saying the words anymore) and low top of windshield.

What did they consider "tall"? I'm the same height as you (6'3") and I fit perfectly in my Gen2, even with a cowboy hat! :p

Bad pic but you get the idea...

With respect, is that 6'3" in boots? Is the rearview mirror not blocking you view?

Gen2 Prius has the driver ergos and seat dims virtually straight from a Yaris hatchback, not even the Sedan which has better ergos.

The 03-09 Corolla ergos are notably better than the Gen2 Prius and the Camry is in a wholly upgraded league from the Gen2 in comfort.

Ok everyone. I wanted a 2010 Prius but am comsidering a 09 Camry Hybrid because of the unbelieveable deal I have been offered. The Camry has every option except fog lamps (which I really don't care about anyway) The dealer is knocking 2,000 off the msrp and it also has a 2,500 rebate. I remember last year there was no rebate and they wouldn't come down even a nickel. I really doubt I could justify the cost of the sunroof package on the new Prius. Anyone know of any problem areas with the Camry hybrid or any other reason I should pass on this. Thanks, Rick

I have an '07 HyCam and am completely satisfied with it. I have not had any problems. Much better ride, more comfortable and less tiring than Prius for long highway trips. No handling issues (unless of course you expect it to handle like a BMW) and no traction control issues. That said, it is larger and less nimble than the Prius for in town driving. MPG is close to government ratings. You can expect 34 if all you ever do is short trip stop and go driving. That can rise to 36 to 40 for longer trips or highway commutes. Trunk space may be an issue for some people, but has been adequate for my 2 person family.

Some people would advocate looking at the new Ford Fusion Hybrid, which has higher MPG ratings and supposedly better handling.

The 2010 HyCam is already in inventory in some places, which may be the reason for the deal. Only minor changes though, one of which is the new better Stereo/Nav, with factory installed USB integration.

I don't expect it to nor would even want it to handle like a BMW so I'm ok with that but I don't quite understand what you meant about traction control issues. I did look at the Ford Fusion but they aren't dealing one little bit. Besides I have had issues with a Ford from my past so it was easy to walk away from them.

6'3" natural. No artificial boosters. ;) More like 6'4.5" with the boots

I have zero issues with visibility regarding the rear view mirror. I just have to lean a bit more when getting into the car to keep from knocking my hat off. That is the same for just about every car I've owned except my trucks.

(First post) The reason I just bought my 2009 Prius (352 miles and counting) this week was because of the 2010. I knew the 2010 was coming so I used that to work a smokin deal on my 09 got it for around 20K before tax, title, license and warranty. I made 3 dealers compete, the dealer with 15 09's on their lot won! Plus from what I've read my 09 package 2 has more features than the 2010 package 2.

Just a quick comment re: the rearview mirror - in case anyone reading here hasn't noticed, it is actually a double-jointed arm. Just grab the frame of the mirror with both hands and push it firmly straight up and it will move closer to the roof and reduce the "blindspot" it causes for taller drivers (I'm 6'2"). It makes a noticeable difference.

Alternately, some people choose to rotate the mirror right around, which can also help, given the mirror shape.

    I prefer option #1, personally.;)

I'm new to blogging (tech challenged) but I love cars over a hundred ten in 63 years. Just sold a 97 z3 (have to grow up sometime) to get my 04 Prius which I nicknamed Judas.
Is there a Prius club near? Thinking about time and distance rallying or even drags. I know it sort of flys in the face of what Priussss stand for.
I think by doing some of the things that make guys fall in love with their cars, in the Prius, we will get the message out there "Hey these are fun cars" and create more of a demand.
Why not a show and shine event at a "greasy Spoon" on a Wednesday night? Let's see the latest trick out!
With enough pri-nuts we could have a rally in the Auburn Hills and pizza at Roundtable.
How about drags at the fairgrounds, is a 12 second quarter mile possible? Maybe the drags should be at Mathre Field so we have enough runway to get up to 60mph!
Is it possible for two people to sleep in the back end?
I'm being a little silly here but I'm trying to make a point and that is: If you only look at these marvelous cars as transportation, you miss out on a lot of fun and you look to the auto world as a bunch of Nerds and eco nuts. Remember the movie "Revenge of the Nerds"?
Let's make it fun (and they will come)

The stock horn was my first dislike when I bought my 09 Prius. After some research, I choose the PIAA Sports Horn. 115db -- not a semi's air horn, but loud enough to get people's attention better than the oem horn. Has a pair of horns - dual note horns. The oem has two horns as well, so no special wiring to add. No relays etc. needed. Plug & Play on my 09 -- the shop took the old ones out, put the leads on the PIAA, fastened it down & off I went.

PIAA part number 85110. Amazon.com has it for $43.02, and it ships for free.

I found a website, but can't remember now whose it was, where they listed a variety of horns, and the ability to hear each one. That's how I made my final choice. Perhaps try google & see if that site pops up.

My buddy at work recently bought a 2010 Prius II, and while I like it quite a bit, I still prefer the deal I got with a 2009 Touring equipped with package 6.

The Touring definitely handles better than either the Gen II or the Gen III with 15" tires. The toys with the package 6 (Nav, Leather, Bluetooth, and JBL sound), combined with $$$ off retail, a generous trade on my 07 with 45K, and cheap financing made it a better overall deal than a Gen III Prius II (for my case).

So, my advice is, enjoy the Gen II, and don't sweat it. We know the Gen II has a history of reliability and performance. The Gen III is too new to assess long term issues, and while Toyota engineering is well respected, only time will tell.

By the way, Toyota had to make some comprimises to get the Gen III at the given price points vs. the Gen II. They sure as hell did not cut their profit margins :D
