2010 Prius Models and Option Packages

"Sandy Beach" is actually a light but rather bright gold metalic. Not like any beach I've ever seen, More of a yellowish gold that the brownish "desert sand" found on some Toyota models.I saw the "sandy beach" on a Rav4. I agree a real yellow would be nice.

Best I can remember, the seats are thinner made with better material causing there to be more headroom. Also the roof slides back a tad more affording more headroom.

It should at least be better rather than worse.
But the prius already has better headroom in the back than many luxury cars I've been in except the really big ones like the lincolns etc.

I would say that Sandy beach is a pale (almost sun faded) desert sand. It started as a color in the FJ cruiser and has moved to other models now.

 

I'm with you on that one. I even saw a rim today at Goodyear that looked a lot like the capless Prius. It is tons better than the super cheap looking hubcap.

I'd still like to see a good photo of what the 2010 15" wheel will look like (w/ and w/o the cover).. Getting an aftermarket 15" wheel that looks decent wouldn't be too expensive

 

Oh yea... it would be no covers for me!

 

I recall a poster several weeks ago stated here that the 15" bare alloy wheels were hideous in person. Apparently he saw them up close and personal. His stated opinion.

From pictures I've seen including these above, especially with a center cap in place... not bad IMO. Personally I'm not enamored with the 15" wheel covers. Would wish for a bit more snazz and upscale look.

But...the 17" rims are calling me. Coupling them with the LEDs and fogs - and initial quick steering mods - $1,470... worth it.

Question - would there be nice aftermarket 15" wheel covers available eventually? Are the mounting points different on the Prius compared to other vehicles, with steel wheels?

 

Also, is there any function that the covers are serving? I thought I read somewhere that they helped to cool the brakes plus improved airflow?

 

Dean, I've seen them both up close and personal. The 17" are indeed very classy and nice looking.... I didn't like having to pay so much more for that package and still not get a sunroof.
Most of the advanced features I wouldn't have used either although I may have played with them and had good bragging rights, the sunroof was my choice.
And lastly and "not least" the 17" adds about 3mpg loss to your mileage... a big bummer for me when the whole car only gave me 5mpg advantage over what I'm driving now.

Its a matter of priorities and what matters to you.

But the 15" does look better to me up close and personal without covers.
But some feel differently. Sometimes we just get accustomed to a certain look and don't do change well.

But like someone else said, they look as good as many expensive wheels on the market.

As with any wheels, they only do their thing if you keep them clean, and they will "as any wheel" be harder to clean than the covers.

I have the covers off on my 06 and would do the same for the 2010 and I do think the 2010 wheels look more high performance than the 06.

But like you said, everyone doesn't share that feeling.

Those closeup pics by HTML are good pics... they were taken at the Detroit show I think.

At first, I thought I would love to have my cake and eat it too by having the 17" wheels "and" the sunroof, but the 3mpg mileage hit was a killer for me. Thats a 6% loss in gas mileage. To some that may not be an issue.

 

So you're telling me that underneath the ugly 15" wheel covers, it looks really nice... i would just remove the covers and call it a day. The bare wheel is sexy as is!

looks like the caps have to be thick and wide to hide the double spoke wheel underneath.
