Is the 3-door SKS only available with Pkg IV?

Yep. And yep.

 

One reason why MSRP is lower than the 09s. You loose the 3-door SKS and you loose the touch-screen interface (unless you get nav).
But you get SO MUCH MORE!!!

 

I will admit in my 09 weekend test-drives (I did 2...what can I say...I'm anxious to own one!) I very much enjoyed the 3-door SKS. However, I have a solution to the problem!

I am going to use my keyfob and hit "unlock" so that all my doors will unlock. I know it seems like a lot of work...and for those that are spoiled it will be...but for people like me who have a KEY that has to go into the door and then open said door and then push button inside to unlock all...I'm going to enjoy this.
And it's still easy. I can leave my keyfob in my zipped pocket, feel for unlock button as I walk to car and it will actually unlock more quickly than if you had to go touching a whole bunch of handles and stuff. :blush:

 

The touch screen MFD was standard on the Gen II Prius.

But neither the 3-door SKS nor the back-up camera were standard on the Gen II Prius, although both were part of option packages beginning with the relatively low Package #2.

To me, the biggest loss, as it were, was no longer having a great safety feature like the back-up camera available on a relatively low option package number. Now, you can't get the back-up camera and touch screen MFD until you go with 2010 Prius III and get the Navigation package.

I agree Tom. I didn't think I'd use it till I drove one and it really did help your view. I was debating nav vs no-nav in my package III but Toyota made the decision for me when it HAD to come with my sunroof package.

 

I'm with Tom on this one. The SKS is GREAT, but the real loss is the back-up camera. I am soooo spoiled by the SKS and the rear-view camera. One is a matter of almost ridiculous convenience, while the other is a real safety benefit.

Still, I can't imagine buying a car without the SKS (or the camera). Given the very high price of the NAV package, I'm pretty certain most 2010s sold will not have the back up camera. It is a shame!

 

And every sunroof package too! Definitely is useful safety feature but how many cars under $30k offer this?!

 

Lol. But with the driver side 1-door SKS, you still won't have to rummage around your bag. You will, however, have to walk all the way over to the driver door (phew!) to unlock the rest of the doors.

 

Unless, of course, you decide to reach into your pocket to push the "unlock" button on the key fob.

 

Is it possible to add this at the dealer or after market? It doesn't seem like it would be very expensive. For the Gen II Prius, going from package 1 to package 2 (ie adding 3-door SKS and rear camera) only cost $575.

Really it seems like for such a relatively inexpensive cost they could have just left the 3-door SKS and rear camera, and increased the MSRP on a Gen III package 2 Prius by $575.

 

I believe this was asked at one or more of the Prius Connection events, and I recall the answer to the question of a factory-installed option or dealer extra was "No." I don't know about an after-market option. It seems to me the sky is the limit in the after-market world. I'd bet the price would be considerably higher than you'd be willing to pay.

 

Too true! Personally I have ordered the package 2; for $575 I can open my own door and even pay to have my bumper repainted if I back into something!

Having said that perhaps it would be nice if the 3 key SKS and rear camera could be easily installed for people who would wish to pay a small amount more (ie $575). Currently it appears you would have to go from a package 2 to a package 4 for the 3 door SKS ($3,800) and add the $1800 navigation package for the backup camera. Granted you get a lot of other extras like leather seats, but it's also cost $5600 more than a package 2.
