I just got back from work and my odometer is reading 992 miles and my CAN-View is reporting %55 fuel remaining. SG is reporting 202 MPG and the CV is reporting 235 MPG.

Will I be able to achieve a 200+MPG and 2000+ mile tank?

My schedule is pretty much clear of any long trips until Hybridfest in July. So I should be able to do just my normal commute to work and back 11.1 miles. The only catch is that I'm moving into a new house in about 30 days. The new house is 11.4 miles from work. So I have a little farther to go but my new route will be less hilly and more low speed driving. I hope my battery will last the whole round trip. With my current round trip I still have about 1-2AH left to use which equals out to be about 2-4 miles if I'm lucky.

My new house also does not have a garage so I may not be using my EBH for a while. Building a garage or turning the upper room back into a garage is my first priority. Charging my battery may not be an issue as I can always tap into the out side light but I don't know how I will monitor energy use. I don't want to leave a $230 device out in the weather.

If I'm lucky I should finish with 2000+ miles on the odometer at the end of June. If I have to run my tank down to %0 I will. Otherwise I will fill up after a few miles past 2000.

    Bets are now open. :D

I'm voting Yes on both. You'll have your tires up to 100 psi and looking to avoid commuting into headwinds, but I think you will make it! Now keep your fingers crossed about the weather.

I voted "Yes" on both. Anyone with your driving skills who is willing to run the tank dry to achieve 2000/200 is also willing to push the car (and I mean physically push the car) until you cross the 2000/200 goal...good luck bro!

Enjoyed reading through your fuel log (or should I say...lack of fuel log)!

I just past the 1500 mile mark today. I wont tell you how much fuel I have left but I will give you a hint. I will be forced to fill up before I head to Hybridfest in July.

I wont post my results until the day I fill up.

All bets are now closed! I have recorded the names below to make sure there are no cheaters. The winners of the bets will receive something special which I will reveal the day I fill up. The losers must buy my gas for a year. Just kidding. You don't get anything. The ones that called me a cheater, well shame on you! :p In order to win you must have guessed correctly on both miles and MPG.

    BONUS!

I will give a prize to who ever can guess the closest to my final Miles and MPG without going over. This will actually be one prize if the same person guesses correctly on both Miles and MPG. If not the winner of the closest guess for Miles will get a prize and the winner of the closest MPG will get a prize.

You can only place one guess for both Miles and MPG. Your guess cannot be changed and if you make another post your first post will be the one used. You cannot edit your post and if you do your disqualified. If you guess is over my final result your disqualified. No one can guess the same numbers and if you do your disqualified.

Bonus prize for anyone that guesses the exact Miles and or MPG

The rules are kind of like The Price is Right game show. The closest one without going over wins plus bonus if you guess the correct numbers.

    Is that what you want?
What have I got to lose but I still think you should be taking the energy you put in the car each day via a power point into the equation.

I would advise against running your tank to zero. It's not worth the damage you could do to your car just to meet a very arbitrary number. What makes more sense is to establish repeatable numbers, which means filling the tank at a sensible time, not later than immediately after the last pip starts to blink. I suspect that even the tank percentage reading on the CAN-View is not entirely reliable.

MPG is a more important number than miles per tank, and MPG won't change a lot by draining your tank to empty.

I'm not voting because I have no idea what you will accomplish, though you are clearly doing great.

What damage could he do to his car if he doesn't run the traction battery down?

    Hi All,

In hot weather, running with a low tank level can cause the fuel pump to run hot as its not submerged in gas. Eventually, it will pump allot less gas then spec, which will result in the engine running hot (low fuel pressure, less fuel per injection, running lean -> head temperature goes high) and then stall, at least this is what happened in my Tempo. I wonder if the Prius runs the fuel pump all the time, or if it cuts off with the engine ?

If you go over, does that mean you automatically loose? Like on game shows? Ok, then I'll pick 1999 miles 187mpg
    Strategy

Had to reset my CAN-View recently because of a math bug in the software so here is a little teaser photo. Can you do the math?

The results are in! I decided to fill up early so I can get some stuff done Wednesday before I head out Thursday.

Here are the list of winners! Look for a PM shortly on getting your prize. Each winner will receive a Best Tank / Averaging sticker set. Like the one in the picture except that the Averaging will also have a Cents per mile.

These people guessed right on the poll before I closed it.

Matt Herring guessed the closest to my miles.

efusco guessed the closest to my MPG

Actual mileage data will be posted in a new topic shortly.
