? Sirius satellite portable stiletto adaptor for 2010?

Really? It's not requiring a $400+ option. My TCH and most other Toyota's in the past say satellite ready but you still have to buy the unit. It simply meant that once you buy the unit then it will work through the existing radio.

My Ford did indeed have the satellite radio from the factory and was useable from day one with the trial period.

 

As HTMLSpinner stated, "Depending on your trim level." If you have the JBL system, then you can add an optional XM Tuner likely for a few hundred dollars. If you have the NAV system, then it includes the XM tuner, and a free trial, which you can activate the minute you drive off the lot, and without spending an extra dime one.

If you get anything else, you can always add a Sirius or XM Satellite radio that plugs in via your AUX port, or via FM transmission, just as you could add to any car by picking up a tuner anywhere.

 

The Prius II radio doesn't have XM tuner but the JBL system in Prius III and IV does include the XM tuner (including the 90 day trial), with or without Nav. No optional tuner needed. The JBL system also includes Bluetooth handsfree phone capability with or without Nav (but not Bluetooth audio streaming which does require Nav).

What you do get extra with the Nav are the Bluetooth music streaming, XM traffic capability (extra subscription) and backup camera.

I went back and read the ebrochure for the 2010 prius. I'm not sure I'm agreeing with the claim that the Nav Prius will have satellite radio with the 90 day trial. From what I can see it makes no distinction between the JBL system and the NAV as far as the option which simply states it will have "integrated satelite radio capability". In past Toyota's that simply meant that once you bought the satellite unit and had it installed it would work through (integrated into) the factory radio. All of my Toyota's have read like this and none in the past have has satellite radio without buying the extra unit (at about $400).

I could be wrong, but if the Prius is different than the rest of the Toyota's then this should be something they highlight as a small selling feature as it will svae a lot of money over past Toyota's.

Hopefully I can clarify a bit:
JBL audio system will come as a standard part of Prius III, IV and V models (US). This includes integrated Sat Radio and roof-mounted antenna. The capability mention is because in order for someone in a III, IV or V to actually have Sat Radio, they need to pay a subscription fee. That's all they need since it's Integrated.

Prius II does not come with JBL, it has a base audio system. It has a roof-mounted antenna but no integrated system and therefore would require an accessory add on to make it ready for Sat Radio + of course the subscription.

As for the XM/Sirius questions, we've been looking into this and will try to respond next week rather than giving mis-info. I believe my XM Sat Radio in my 08 Prius suddenly adopted new Sirius channels a while back around the merger time, but let us confirm details for you please.

I guess I'm still skeptical. My 2009 Highlander Hybrid literature says my "premium package" radio, the JBL radio and NAV system are "satelite radio capability". Yet I don't have the ability to pick up XM without the extra hardware. My 2007 Camry Hybrid had the JBL / Nav system and I was required to purchase additional hardware if I wanted XM.

Perhaps the new language "integrated satelite radio capability" means something different than the old language "satelite radio capability", but somehow I don't think so.

I'll probably be pig headded enough that I won't believe it until I see it in Toyota literature

 

We have had confirmation from both the Prius Team, and several dealers, as well as folks here who do have access to the new technical information from Toyota directly who have all told you the same thing. If you are still too "pig headded (sic)" to take our words for it, so be it...

 

I certainly hope you are correct. It just doesn't make sence why Toyota didn't change the description from previous brochures where they used essentially the same language as in the 2010 Prius and they did not have the XM built in. They simply would be compatable with integrated operations once the additional unit was installed.

I've already embarrased myself by questioning this from the experts so I'll probably stay pig headed a while longer just in case I can say I told you so. Nothing left to lose but $400 in savings to gain. Win-win.

It never made sence to me why they didn't build this into the JBL's in the first place. My Ford has it as no extra cost but the subscription for Sirius. Someone has to be getting a kickback on this somehow and it can't cost that much if you add it to all the units sold.
