I can understand Bev's inability to restrain her Hoorays. My son spent a semester in Australia and played with the NSW Bulldogs. Footy is the perfect spirt for his size and skills. Too bad we don't have it here.

Aussie Rules is otherwise known as aerial ping pong due to the ball frequently going from one end of the ground to the other during a game. Scores are typically in double figures for goals and behinds (so named because if you kick too many and the coach will kick your behind), each time a behind is scored the ball is kicked out from the goal square by a player of the opposing team but when a goal is scored the ball returns to the centre for a centre bounce.
A goal is worth 6 points and a behind is worth 1 point.

I believe a lot of women like to watch the game to see the behinds. :D

I think you are refering to a different game. Rugby is the main code played in New South Wales. The game I am refering to is Australian Rules Football, which Pat describes above. Sort of!!!

And yes the 'behinds' are nice, amongst other things.:cheer2:

I agree with Bev completely. We Kiwis find Aussie Rules to be a great example of what boring means ;-)

Nah, it was definitely Aussie Rules Football. I'm sure it was a rookie league that he played in. He loved it.

He played running back in high school football here. Running backs have to hug the football and protect it at all costs while moving it forward as much as possible. In Aussie Rules you get in trouble for running forward too far with the ball, am I right? He said it was hard to get used to that. He went to sleep already so I can't ask him. Anyway, he was also a darn good PAT kicker in American football (gridiron) and a talented soccer (futball) player so his speed and foot skills were an asset on the footy (football) team.

Isn't it boring when a parent drones on about a child?

You may be correct, but the only NSW Aussie Rules football team that I know of are the Sydney Swans. The Sydney Swans were originally South Melbourne. New South Wales did not play Aussie Rules and so to build up a National code South Melbourne moved to Sydney, upsetting many of their supporters, and set up home there. They have done very well there and now have a very strong Sydney supporter base. Your Son may have played Aussie Rules, and not Rugby, just seems unusual for NSW.

This thread has definitely hit the snooze button for me.

wake me when it gets interesting, please...

We watched "My Name is Bruce", including all the special features. They were better than the movie.

I used one of those "Buy One Get One" free coupons at McDonald's this morning. Got and ate two of their "Steak, Egg & Cheese Bagel" sandwiches. Very tasty. But that means I consumed 1100 calories before 7:00 a.m.

Speaking of behinds... My students are reviewing some solar system basics this week. Here is the juvenile joke of the week. "Where can you find the Klingons?" "They're around Uranus."
