I see from the pictures people have posted of their 2010 Prius's that the overhead console doesn't include the buttons needed for the Safety Connect feature. This feature is listed as being part of the Navigation package, but not available until the Fall. Does anyone know if this will become a dealer-installed option for the early models, like the Ipod/USB connection, or if the early models will not be able to get the Safety Connect feature when it is introduced later in the year?

No, it cannot be installed in cars purchased now. It's something that if you truly want it, you have to wait until the fall and buy a car then that has it.

Since it uses GPS and cellular technology, unlike OnStar, will it work in Hawaii?

    Hi Paradox:

I was told that in the New York Metro region that even in the fall only the Prius V can be ordered with Safety Connect even though the booklet lists Safety connect as available for the Model Iv as well.

    Thanks

As is the case for the various available vehicle configurations, different regions may limit the dealers selections to a few models only. Try another region, or wait until they start to deliver these to confirm that. Likely, the dealer is either limited by his region, or his product knowledge. Time will tell.

... GPS satellites circle the globe, including Hawaii. I am pretty sure Hawaiians have cell phones too.

Yes, as it should use GPS coordinates, you should be fine, assuming it gets a cell signal. However, others here have posted (or it may be you?) that the GPS NAVI did not have Hawaii information, so it may be of limited use... (Then again, it is an Island, how hard can it be to get lost, just keep driving around it till you see homes? LOL
