Toyota tacked on a handful of BS fees for Liberty Toyota to the pre-order price. One reason they didn't sell the car to me.

Just looked at a 2010 tonight, couldn't drive it though. Southeast Michigan and they were asking MSRP + a doc fee of $190 + a CVR fee (something Vehicle Registration, he said it was for electronic registration of the car) + Delivery and Processing Fee of $750.

Is the $750 what DaveinOlyWA referred to and is it the same across the country?

Yes, the Delivery fee of $750 is added to the MSRP of all Prii. Was the CVR on top of the doc fee? Hadn't heard of that fee before. But then again, I've never purhased a car in Michigan.

The CVR fee was only $24 and was in addition to the doc fee.

Illinois has the same fee. We call it EFF (Electronic Filing Fee). It pays for the plates and taxes online with the state. The reason there is a charge is because the state charges us to do it that way. We can still do it the old fashion way and not charge you the fee though. But you will wait 8 weeks to have your license plates transferred. So if the police pull you over, you have some explaining to do. Especially with 99% of the people paying the fee and having everything done quicker.

Great link. The chart at the bottom is excellent. Many states have a limit on the doc fees a dealer can charge (often around $50), and somehow their dealers manage to fill out the forms without going bankrupt!

Texas residents should note that the sales tax % on this chart is wrong. Texas charges a separate motor vehicle tax of 6.25%, rather than the standard sales tax rates.

Please don't be bashful. Who is the Dealer - Maroone, Lipton, Kendall, or Armstrong. And... have you been quoted the same or similar fee by any of the others. I'm so disgusted with SET and their BS fees I'm seriously thinking about buying out of the region. I don't put all the blame on the dealers because of SET, but these added fees are just too much on top of MSRP. Then when they want you to pay $699 for paint sealant....well that's just B.S. !

I just drove a 2010 at World Toyota in Atlanta. They wanted $2995 extra as a "Market Adjustment Fee". I think I'll shop around.

I paid msrp $26,750 plus tax and a $149 document fee for my 2010 Prius IV with carpeted floor mats from a local dealer Warsaw, IN . A Fort Wayne, IN dealer wanted msrp + $1250 premium for the same vehicle.

BWALS: congrats. Didn't you have to pay destination fee of $750?
If not, are there others PC'ers who are not being charged the destination fee?

As has been said many times here MSRP includes $750 Delivery fee.

This is not the case. While every car has this fee paid by the dealer to the region to cover advertising, the only ones of us who have ever seen it or needed to know about it was those who were priority orders.

This is because the standard invoice the dealers have include an advertising fee. If they sell at invoice, this fee is included already, just as it is at MSRP. Again if someone were able to negotiate to invoice on these vehicles, then this may become apparent to those deals, but for everyone else, this is only an issue for the dealers to worry about, and pay out of the MSRP that we are paying them as we buy the Prii.

IMO they are trying to double bill the destination fee which is already included in the MSRP. Pure sleaze.

chart is inaccurate. doc fees for WA state are $50 and have been for years. also the max sales tax is listed as 9% which is also wrong.

state sales tax is 6.5%... local tax is anywhere from 1.8 to around 2.5%...theh there is a new vehicle tax of .5%

all this does not affect me since i paid no tax at all.

Re: WA state taxes and fees
Local tax can be higher, so my area is already paying a total retail tax of 9.5%.

I also heard of an attempt to raise the maximum documentation fee to $150, effective July 1. However, the outcome of that attempt is unknown.

Never owned a Prius and was looking to get a new car in the near future. I was getting pretty excited about the 2010, but those BS options for SET have really turned me off. $699 for a single freaking oil change is just stupid. Hopefully those things will go away or I'll probably be looking elsewhere for my next car.

New to the forum. I just put a deposit on a 2010 III with $99 bumper protector, $169 floor mats, $619 Toyoguard (that doesn't include the oil change or loaner car), plus $775 delivery fee. SET of course. Unfortunately, I just sold my other car and need one soon. Any opinions on this.
