2010 vs 2009 early comparisons

    Roomy front seats is a good description for the 2010. Cramped and awkward for my 6ft 2 in frame and long legs describes the 09 correctly.

    I like what I saw driving the 2010 tonight. It looks like 'the total package' as described by Edmunds.

    It would be very interesting to hear what the bluetooth phone sounds like - standing still, driving on the freeway, or w/ the moonroof open. I've had some pretty bad bluetooth conversations w/ friends driving in other makes.

    well, i did do a few calls with the window open but at street speeds. i think the sunroof being open would make the most difference since the microphone is pretty close to the opening. i also made several tests by calling my work cell and leaving messages on it. i moved my head around, changed volume of my voice and all in all, the recording came out remarkably well.

    Ohh ok.. so it will recognise the names of the contacts in your contact book? Wow, that's pretty advanced.

    And I guess when you mean "Say a number", you mean choose one from the list and say the corresponding number, right?


    It's 18 speed dials IIRC. 6 per page and there are 3 pages/tabs of speed dials.

    I have to disagree just for the sake of fairness to anyone looking at a 2004-2009 Prius. I'm 6'3" with a 34" inseam and I have zero issues with clearance for my head (even with a cowbow hat on) or for my legs/knees. I'm know saying you are not uncomfortable but I want anyone reading this who is tall to not shy away from at least looking at a Gen II because of their height.

    well its options are

    say a name; that dials from your uploaded contacts

    say a number; this dials what you say like "360.xxx.xxxx"

    the speed dials that are programed; ummm....hmmm... well to be honest with ya, the contacts uploaded and worked without a hitch so well. since this thread, i have actually tried using voice rec to call several dozen people (including YOU) just to see if it would dial... now, not wanting long distance calls to canada on my bill, i just cancel the order on the last step. i kinda fail to see the worth of the effort to manually program in something else into the speed dials...

    one of these days, i am sure i will get bored with all the other new stuff i have, as of yet, had no where near enough time to explore up to this point, and check it out.

    what i will try is adding speed dials and see if "speed dial becomes another option after "phone"...


    obtw, enable POI's on map, many have an "info" button which also allows you to auto dial the POI phone number as well. all in all, by far the best functioning "hands-free" system i have used. only hitch is calling a number (like my SO) that involves punching in an ext...if moving, its not accessible on the screen and so far, i am having to punch it in on the phone itself...

    any ideas around this?

    I know... I meant you said they'll say "say a number" if there is more than one match to the name (e.g. a home and a cell number stored in the contacts) so i was just clarifying that you meant choosing a number from the choices that are listed.

    oh ya, ok right!!

    once in a while i will say a name and it will give me 3 choices, but its always been the first choice and it doesnt happen too often


    one other thing i just thought of, on the SPM i frequently got "noise" if charging my ipod, the 2010 does not have it...which we were advised of while in Detroit, but thought i would mention that i have verified that

    Just program the extension # as part of the contact's phone # on your phone. Use commas to add pause delays before the extension is dialed.

    Cool! That's a pretty smart system then.

    Ohh? Well I don't have BT on my '05 so I won't know it ever existed lol. No issues with the DICE with regards to noise.

    VERY glad to hear that ... it's annoying to not be able to listen to your iPod while charging it due to that little problem.

    hmm tried that actually since i do the same thing with my voice mail so i dont have to enter my password in. i think i will try to add a few more pauses and see if that works. now that i think of it, i think that is the only # with an extension that does not work.

    This is an old old thread now, but thought I would give the update as some of you may be curious to know.

    As the OP of this thread I'm glad to announce that I have finally made the decision after 2 months of searching, researching, and deliberating between Gen2 vs Gen3.

    I considered Gen2 given the current incentives for buying new due to arrival of Gen3, or cheaper getting used. The poor handling on non-touring model basically ruled that out for me (i.e. deal breaker). Touring model handled much better around corners, but a new one only comes fully loaded so the price is comparable to the gen3 IV, and used ones are hard to find and asking price is too high for me. Plus I noticed significant wind and road noise.

    I was convinced by those who responded to the thread and from researching the features that Gen3 is indeed superior to Gen2 in many respects. Overall, the gen3 handles and rides better than gen2, is quieter, more powerful yet more fuel efficient, and looks sexier (in my opinion). I also can appreciate the 8-way adjustable seats (IV and V). In other words, as a car it is much improved. In my mind the gen3 is a totally different car than the gen2.

    IV and V in northern CA cannot come w/o Nav (if they did I would not get Nav). So the V w/o ATP is like $2k more than the IV w/o SR ($30k vs $28k). For less than 10% more, it gets 17" rims (better handling), smaller turn ratio, LED lights, foglamps.... It was a no-brainer for me.

    let us know when you actually get your 2010. and yes, the 2010 is not a repackaged 2009 with different options, it is a better car in nearly every way.

    as far as the turning radius, not smaller, just less turns on the steering wheel which does make a difference.

    The 2010 is so far more advanced than the 2009 that you have to have the dealer disable the backup beep
