I've had a Kitchen Aid for 34 years, and used my mother's Kitchen Aid before that. They are great machines. I use mine for serious bread work.

Bread machines are great for routine stuff, making pizza dough, and simple things like that.

I have a small machine shop. In the end, I will probably manufacture a new piece, but it needs to be made from a heat resistant material.

I will probably buy a new machine and also repair the old machine, at which point I will discover that I can't live without two bread machines. It's part of my long term plan to complicate life.

Oh absolutely. I repair everything, right down to board level electronics repairs. Often some other critical component fails soon after the repair, and I end up junking the whole thing, but it's a matter of principle.

One of the killer items about repairing items is the labor costs. If it takes an hour to fix a bread machine that costs $99, you've spent a significant fraction of the purchase. On some products, just opening the case costs more in labor than replacing it.

Only because we have completely subsidized and culturally encouraged desposing of perfectly repairable items and maximized the culture of consumption. Not to mention that the smart consumers who spend a little more capital cost for much less recurring cost (e.g. Prius buyer) are in the minority.

I repaired it, but only because it's a matter of principle. It turns out that this model is no longer made, which is why I can't get parts. Eventually it will break in some manner that is too expensive to repair, so I am researching better machines.

I have this mental image of JB Weld and PL Premium adhesive being used. Whatever works, though
