2010 Prius Canadian Pricing?

    We do have a 6.1% duty. I don't know if US has that duty on imports. That's one reason the Canadian prices are usually higher.

    Hmm...

    A - $27,000 (Base)
    B - $28,500 (Premium)
    C - $30,500 (Premium w/ Solar Cells)
    D - $37,000 (Technology)
    E - $30,100 (Touring)

    PDI, fees and taxes extra.


    Of course I'm hoping it's lower. Where's ea?? he got the packages fairly close. Maybe he can work his magic on the prices :D

    nice try but... no.

    duty is (supposedly) paid either way - if you buy it in Canada, duty is (somehow) included in the price.

    if you import from the US, you pay the 6.1% duty at the border (since the Prius is made in Japan).

    If the Prius was made in the USA, there would be no duty (again, in both cases).

    the huge price difference I had for my '07 was AFTER including the 6.1% duty I paid at the border.

    the price difference was mind boggling - we're talking about $10,000 difference on a vehicle that costs 20k-30k.

    it's greed, plain and simple. and the reason why Toyota tries to stop their US dealers from selling to Canadians - they get much higher margins in Canada (and they have a "no haggle" policy here, meaning you're usually stuck with MSRP here).

    Keep in mind that when I bought my 2005, it was cheaper to buy in Canada. If you were to import one, you would end up paying at least $6,000 more (on exchange rate alone.. not factoring in the 6.1% duty). So it's the exchange rate that's making the prices more appealing down south. (and let's face it, it did go to parity relatively quickly... In 3 years it went from 60 or so cents to 1.10).

    Also, the "Access Toyota" fixed price policy is a Vancouver area thing (or maybe it's a BC thing since BC is one region for Toyota Canada). It's ridiculous and there's nothing we can do about it.

    I've read new owners' impressions from across the country and you can certainly haggle on a Toyota (take Toronto for example. A hot selling Corolla can be had with a few $100 off. That's better than $0 that any Lower Mainland dealer is offering).

    My friend bought a new 2009 Corolla CE Enhanced Conv. Package here in Alberta and he's got a lotta free accessories in addition to the discount off the MSRP. (These are not factory discounts). If he had bought it in Vancouver, it'd be MSRP and he would've had to pay for the accessories.

    I remember when Vancouver area Toyota dealers actually welcomed your business and actually had gifts that they handed out upon delivery of the vehicle as a token of their appreciation. Right now, it's "if I don't sell to you, I'll sell to the next person to wants one."

    Less than a week to wait !!!!

    Finally my Prius will be delivered to my dealer next Thursday and I will be able to pick it up Friday the 19th. Usually they need 48 hours for preparation time but they will rush it for me (I guess I've been so annoying that they want to get rid of me as soon as possible !)

    Since no dealer will have the car before the 18th, with the time they need for preparation, in principle, the cars will not be availlable on the 18th !

    My dealer told me yesterday that he believes the rate for purchasing to be 5.9%.

    He thinks the brochures won't be ready or delivered to dealers before some weeks and the price list will be known only the 18th. I hope that I will be able to get my new car assured in less than 24 hours !

    I'm having a heck of a time getting insurance sorted out, the VIN number isn't valid yet and most companies don't have anything about a 2010 prius, Hopefully I'll get the call on monday getting this all sorted out, maybe about the same time as the call to say my car has arrived at the dealership.

    I will call my insurance company early tomorrow morning but without a price, and since I will not be the owner of the car until Thursday, I don't know how far I can go in the process.

    Knowing how anxious they are to seize all the occasions they have to increase the premium, probably they will ask for an "approximation" of the price and ask me to call back Friday to confirm all the missing information :suspicious:

    No problem here. I already have my in-car papers for a June 18th effective date and my insurer will do the backend of the paperwork when the pricing comes out.

    Hoping that Thursday is the day! (even though I'm pretty sure mine won't be until next week) I know there are already cars in the hidden distribution lots, so I don't think prep time will be an issue for a lot of people.

    Same here. I had no problems getting a quote for the insurance. Also insurance agent is on stand-by. All I have to do is give the word along with a VIN and a copy of the purchase argreement and I'm ready.

    Finally I did call my insurance company this morning and I had no problem at all. I just have to give them the missing information next Friday and everything will be settled.

    I was a little bit surprised by the premium; An increase of 35$ per month. Honestly, I expected more ! I own a 2002 Altima and my 16 years old son is registred as occasional driver.
