Hello Prius Chat members! Just registered with this amazing and enthusiastic forum and couldn't be happier.

I'm new to the world of hybrids though I've followed it with casual interest for some time. I loved the first generation Prius and fantasized about buying one...but allowed all those crazy fears of the 'unknown' prevent me from doing so. Now Gen III is here, and it's had me salivating from the moment I laid eyes on it. I'm in the market for a new car and the latest version of the Prius is atop the list of potential candidates. I registered with the hope of learning much, much more before making a decision. I've so many questions I want to ask; many more experiences of others I wish to read about. One thing is certain: the current model is a beautiful work of art in my eyes. Those of you fortunate to have one--no matter the generation--are no doubt proud!

So that's my intro, short & sweet. Glad to be here and feeling incredibly excited about the prospect of joining the ranks of other hybrid owners. And, should I ever ask a question that seems positively asinine in scope, be gentle with me...I'm a newbie, after all! :)

Not sure exactly sure where in IL you are, but I heard Chicago will have Prius Meet, I think next week. Maybe this week. Hope you didn't miss already, but I have been chatting with one of the new Chicago owners of Prius V 3 Gen with Advanced Tech package, Mario, and I got the impression he or probably any other proud new owner that goes to the meet would be thrilled to show you and talk about everything Prius. I told Mario I was in Chicago last week, and even though we have never met, he said he would have liked me to come by and explore his new Prius with him.

PS, I guess your Avitar photo is one of the earlier Hybrids now that I think of it, but I don't think they have any battery storage, do they?

G'day E6 Fan, love the hybrid currently in your avatar. Bit thirsty but practical and efficient. There should be more of them.

You cane to the right place to learn about the Prius, the one thing better than salivating over one, is owning one!

Hey, an E6! I have one of those, too. All-electric, though, not a hybrid. ;)
    Welcome aboard.

Unfortunately no. Trying to find a good parking space at the local mall was proving increasingly difficult. Really hard to do when you're pulling eight streamlined passenger cars behind you. Still, she's still a beauty, isn't she? :D

Thanks for the heads up. I'll Google this and see what I come up with. Battery storage wasn't really part of the equation w/ the E6, though she was a hybrid technically! :)

Say, thanks! Old steamers and sleek diesel locomotives are two of my great loves. Thanks also (to each of you) for the welcome. There's so much to review here, I'm not sure where to begin first!

Not as stylish as that E6 perhaps, but this here is a for-real hybrid with a battery pack: GEVO Hybrid :D

I wonder if it has touch-screen MFDs like our Prius.

Wow, that's awesome. Touch-screens in a modern locomotive seems almost a given I would think, for whatever the purpose. GE and Toyota should form an alliance to tout the virtues of hybrids, both on the rails and on the road! I can see it now: the GE logo towards the cab, Toyo's logo on the rear flanks, and the diesel making pre-determined stops while on a cross country tour, a Gen III Prius at every station as part of the exhibit. Win-win! :)
