sweet! so you decide to take the Premium Package?

well it shouldn't take too long to change it. Just make an appt in the morning or sth.

nice. How does the backup camera fair? I haven't had any experience with it in the rearview mirror. Is it clear? Is it just as useful as the full screen one?

I don't have any experience with the 2nd gen's backup camera, so this will be a first for me. The picture is small but definitely clear and usable. I'll try to take a short video of it working!:) How am I going to sleep tonight... I'll have my car in 12 hours!

I took a short and shaky video of the backup camera.

I posted this and some pics of my car over on Official Owners Pics. Now, off to read my 600 page Owners Manual...

Yesterday night we went (the familly) to the Toyota dealer to take a look and "touch" the Prius. They had one Base model (Silver) and one Blue Ribbon Premium. My first impression was pretty much positive. There is a lot of room in rear seats and I liked the cockpit feeling in the driver seat.

A flat note ; I was a little bit disapointed by the plastic of the doors and the dashboard. Is there some leather on the doors if we choose the "leather" option ?

My wife was "satisfied" by the seats. When we tried a 2009 Prius in March, she found it to be very firm. The new ones are better.

We haven't been able to find any device for the opening of the back trunk from the driver's seat. Is there any ? Even the dealer was not able to locate it !

We haven't been able to test drive it because the cars were not "ready" for the road (whatever it meant).

So, our little visit to Toyota was a balm for the deception of having to wait possibly another week to get our Prius !

Cars need to the PDI'd before they're road ready. When they come off the truck, they're not fully functioning and they don't work like a regular car should (e.g. the power windows were working when the car was off and the front doors were opened so it couldn't have been the retained accessory power)

Thanks! Seems useable though a bit smaller than I expected.

moner's the first one on PriusChat. The article that DeFrance posted lists the others that are the first to pick it up (but are not on PriusChat).

I bought my Blue Ribbon Premium on June 18th in Vancouver, and picked it up on June 19th! :D I'm absolutely in love with it and I can't wipe the grin off my face. I wake up in the morning and all I want to do is go for a drive. Actually it's causing me to get a bit sleep deprived!
I've put about 160 km on it so far and I'm getting 3.9l/100km which is probably alright considering I've never driven a hybrid before. I drive around mostly in ECO mode a bit over 50km/hr, which seems to cause large trucks to magically appear right on my tail. It's amazing how much bad attitude I'm getting from other drivers!
The power mode is surprisingly great for the freeway and big hills, ECO is sluggish but good for the city. I've only done a couple blocks in EV mode but it's good for impressing your friends. I haven't even tried normal mode yet. The blue paint looks beautiful in the sun, nice and sparkly.
Anything else you want to know? I just thought of another reason to go for a drive... I'm out!

If you need a reason to drive, you're very welcome to spend your vacation in "La belle province" !

I'm offering you a drink and we will discuss "Prius". By the time you get here, I hope my car will be delivered !

    Hey Moner,

Glad to hear that your Prius didn't disappoint! :)

    A few specific questions:
    - Is the Mileage gauge in MPG or L/100km? I'm hoping for L/100km...

    - Got any wet weather in your 160KM? if so, how'd the Prius handle?

    - What brand tires did you get? I suspect the Canadian batch might get a different brand from the US batch...I"m hoping for either Yoko's or Michelin's

    - Got anything off the MSRP? I'm hoping to wheel n' deal a bit....

    Here's to a lot of hoping... :D

All the way to Quebec eh? That's a long way to go for a drink... maybe after my break-in period! :p Actually our first roadtrip will be down to Yellowstone in August.

The mileage gauge is in L/100km.

I haven't got to try any really wet weather yet, but it's Vancouver so I will be getting drenched soon I'm sure.

My car was fitted with Bridgestone Ecopia's. I saw in another thread that some American cars had these too. Now I'm trying to figure out what to do for winter tires and rims...

I paid MSRP and got black book value on my trade in. If I'd known I was getting my Prius so soon I think I would've tried to sell my other car privately! At least I got free all-weather floor mats thrown in on the deal.

Holy crap.. 3.9L/100km?!?!? Are you serious? It took me 3 years to get 3.9L/100km on the 2005. (Over a full tank that is).

Let us know what the final figure is for the entire tank!

Well, I destroyed my mileage today. Drove up Burnaby Mountain and twice up Boundary hill. Now it's only 4.4L/100k. :( Although, it's a fair bit better than my old car that was averaging 12-13L/100k. I'll let you know when I get the whole tank done!

LOL yeah that'll kill it. I never go up Boundary. I always go down to SW.

My 3.9L/100km tank included SFU actually so don't despair! If you want to see what your car can really do, follow this route

UBC eastbound via SW Marine Dr. to Boundary. If you can P&G properly, that should net you close to 3.1L/100km (I can get 3.4L/100km on the 05) over that one way route.

The other is down Gaglardi to Lougheed westbound. Yes it's 70km/h but if the traffic is light, you can P&G (I did 60-40) and not obstuct traffic cause everyone would've blown by you and there'll be no cars behind because of the long traffic light at Gaglardi and Lougheed.

Granville northbound from 41st to Broadway is good too b/c it's mostly downhill. If you can time the lights right (and it's not rush hour), you only need to pulse once near King Ed. Otherwise, the hills should give you enough momentum to glide from 41st through to broadway (you almost will stop at one of those lights btwn 16th and Broadway, eh?)

Dang, I've got alot to learn about hybrid driving in this city. Thanks for the route tips, I live closer to Burnaby than all those nice West routes but I'll try them on a weekend and see if I can at least tie your mileage. I haven't even tried the old P&G as my music's usually way too loud to hear what's going on effectively! XM Liquid Metal sounds real nice in the Prius, hehe.

haha well you'll learn your routes and then you can share them here so I know how to navigate Bby efficiently! It'll take a few months of driving the same route to figure out which is best.

For a few months, I had to teach at SFU so I tried different routes, mixing and matching Hastings vs. Hwy 1/Gaglardi. I figured from the DT area, it's better through Hastings (Cause I was going against traffic in the morning) and you slowly rise in elevation via Hastings making the final ascent through Bby Mtn Pkwy less of a mileage ding than straight up the mtn side along Galgardi. However, heading int he other direction, I take Gaglardi down and go back via Lougheed. I was ok til Willingdon. That's where the traffic is and there's not much I can do about it but disguise the P&G with the traffic lights.

What don't you like about the Bridgestones? They seem nice and quiet but I don't know much about tires so I'd like to know the negatives. They have such a smooth tread I'm a bit worried about wet weather performance.
Thankfully we don't have the mandatory block heater here, what a rip off. Do you have the PST tax credit where you are? I saved $1480 with that here in BC.
Have a fun test drive, let me know what you think. Once you get your car we'll have to set up a Canadian Owner's Pics thread!
