Not sure what I think about a black spoiler. Should we be able to pick what we want.
    • Spoiler does not pop, with it being black, it blends with glass, even more so if you tint windows.
    • I think on IV and V it should be the color of the car.
    • P GII has spoiler that match car.
    What your thoughts?

I like the black spoiler but would like to see a carbon fibre look overlay made available for the spoiler.

I don't like it as well as the previous generations matching colored spoilers.

It's okay though, far from a deal breaker. Toyota admitted that one of the goals with the redesign was to reduce production costs. I'm sure 1 generic spoiler attached to every color Prius produced is probably easier to manufacture and cheaper.

Good idea! I think I'd go for that... hint Danny.

Well, my 2 cents. I've seen pics of the '10 since spy shots - right up to the day prior to picking up mine. I had always thought I like the rear end of the Gen 2 better than 3, esp the spoiler. I liked the rounded rear G2 backside with the body color spoiler. Even thought that at some time I'd have the black spoiler painted.

Surprisingly (to me), I actually LIKE the black spoiler, and even the increased horiz size. It grew on me. IMO the '10 is a huge leap to visual sportiness all around, including the back end.

I would definitely consider the carbon-fibre-like overlay - great idea! Even though the current spoiler is shiney black, it does show rainspotting easily. The back end, right up to the mini-glass rear, gets a lot of kickup spray from rain. Perhaps a product of the slipstream and underbody pan.

Off topic, but - my car was quite crappy looking after a weekend out of town and parking outside under trees, etc. Stopped at a great car wash on the way back - brand new place using only felt touch-wipers and lots of suds and water. Looks so good. The spoiler came out as if it was just installed on the assembly line. I'm not a hyper-neat-freak so will use a good car wash now and then. No scratches or streaks after the virgin mechanical wash.

Another off-topic. Last week when my car was 6 days old and 350 miles I almost got creamed. Would have been totally my fault. 1/2 second earlier and the driver's side would have been mush.... Just after, one of those stomach-in-the-throat feelings. THAT would have been a tough posting to write. But a very good lesson and wakeup call.

We must be cosmic bros as I too was just posting comments under Raves & Rants about the dirty rear end AND nearly got creamed on the right side Saturday! The view to the right was slightly obscured by the passenger seat headrest. I like the black spoiler but wish it had several slots through it to direct air flow downward to keep the under-spoiler area somewhat cleaner; this area really gets coated with road grime & dirt. I don't really care for the black real spoiler. I does show water spots easily and seems to scratch easily since it is glossy. I wish it was colormatched or at least painted black.

I think it's a nice contrast with the Blizzard Pearl.

I like the way the black spoiler blends with the rear windows. It gives the Prius a much sleeker look. I always thought the Gen II rear somewhat chunky and quite unsexy.

Pity that it shows dirt and waterspots more easily though.

    No I don't.

I have nothing against having a black spoiler. It's just that it's a glossy plastic and will scratch. My smart has the same plastic part and it's showing scratches. I've only washed it 4 times in its life! (it's a year old). It was hidden when I waxed it but the next time I washed it, the swirls were back.

Good idea!! You can grab a roll of carbon fibre looking wrap from a department store or an automotive store. I don't know if it's ok for exterior applications as I know people use it for interior applications.
