Well there isn't a single Prius in the world that comes with 17" alloys and a solar panel moonroof so I guess the whole world's on this excuse, eh?

Let's see, a Hummer, aZR1 and three other vehicles.

Well, I am truly sorry that Toyota isn't making yet another car to join your stable, but perhaps you can take solace in knowing that you are the reason that Prius exists (and that GM is dead and that taxpayers are having to pick up the bill.)

WOW. I didn't know you were able to get $200 off from Costco. i wish i got $200 off my Prius IV with Navi.. I planned to get the solar roof package but just couldn't justify the extra 2k. Look out for my Prius review coming soon on my blog.

Ok, today we took my new 2010 III with solar roof for it's first "Sunday drive".
I emptied out my old Prizm and loaded up the Prius with all of my necessities!
Except my QUARTERS!!!! Am I just missing it?!?
Surely no self respecting auto manufacturer would dare produce a car without a built in coin dispenser?!? Is it a weight issue?

Yeah that's one thing I miss from our Camry. There's no driver's side bin (which I use for change)

Mr resolution for this. I used the inside console cupholder. Just happened to have a perfect-fitting Tupperware cup. Slipped right into the cupholder for change and very small stuff. If I would happen to need that cupholder, the cup comes out into the console bin or elsewhere. Also, easy to remove the inside cup with change to dump out and sort change if needed.
I agree that a flip/bin would be nice but in the scheme of things... small change.
BTW I used to keep a bottle of water in my old car's cup holder all the time. Now I keep it in the Prius door bin - use the front cupholder when I buy coffee or such.

What I have in my "stable" is not your concern - except I tend to purchase American and choose the best in class products for a specific intended use (my point). To match the performance of my 638 HP ZR1 Corvette you would need to spend about 2.5x as much and purchase from Lamborghini and the Corvette (18 MPG combined in my last fill-up) will still out perform the Murcielago that gets 10 MPG combined.
When snow is bad in Colorado I can get around in the mountains with the Hummer H2 with no issue when everything including emergency vehicles can't. It also allows me to get my wife (M.D./surgeon)to the hospital should she be paged in an emergency - I can't depend on the Prius in bad winter weather to do that.

The Prius is the best in class product for emissions and gas mileage available today and it is the reason I own it. There is NO Technical Engineering reason reason that you cannot combine a Solar Moon Roof and the Technology Package -IT CAN BE DONE - Toyota just chooses not to do it and I believe it is a Marketing issue much more than it is an Engineering Issue.

? That comment makes no sense -
Just because it is not packaged that way now does not mean it won't be in the future.
Again, there is no Engineering problem that cannot be solved - especially something as lame as this.
I can guarantee you that Toyota just "chooses" not to package the vehicle with the Technology Package and with the Solar/Sun roof w/ LED lights "today".

It is not because they are stumped and just can't figure out how to do it from a technical engineering point of view.... which was the point of my comment and that is was more of a marketing choice. I am sure Toyota is more concerned that it would catch a wrath from the trade rags about the $40,000+ Prius - and I am sure the boys from Lexus whould cry foul as would start to venture into their product target market when it starts to get to that price range and up.

Well, assuming a 5% rate of return (not adjusted for inflation, because they give you back 2015 dollars), $1900 over 6 years yields... ~$650 worth of profit. Even after the commission is paid out, there is still a profit. The margins on these warranties are generally so high, this kind of profit is sufficient to cover the cases where you actually need to use the warranty.

That said, it is interested that offer was made, as they pushed the extended warranty on me too, and yet they never offered that "money back if you don't use it" BS.

For give the outspoken "green" issue only Prius lovers on this site. Not everyone here is a tree hugger. I have a Prius on order but I also have an Expedition. The Prius can't tow, can't haul 8 and is useless on hills in snow. It's easy to forget sometimes in the sunny cities of CA that the Prius is not the solution to everyones needs.

I hate to see people waste gasoline for patrotic reasons, but for those that can afford a fleet, then having a vehicle for each need is great!

They should be happy that you are at times willing to park the Vette and Hummer to drive the Prius.

To both your comments. this is why I made the comment. Everyone thinks it's the Technology Package and the Solar Roof.

    I'll repeat

NO IT IS NOT! In Canada, we have the Tech package and the solar roof. It can be done.

The ISSUE is the 17" alloys and the solar panel roof.

Yes you can have LEDs with the roof. You can have radar cruise with the roof. You have anything with the goddamn roof but not the 17" alloys.

    Capische?

I am so loving my new Model III with solar roof package!:)

I have been asked about the battery, how long it lasts and what is done with it when it dies.

Obviously because the whole idea is "being green" they must have a plan for the appropriate disposal of the used batteries.

Can someone help me with this information, please.

A lot of people have misconceptions about the Hummer. It is 100% recyclable. It is cheaper per pound than macadamia nuts!;)

To clarify: Costco has not begun their discount pricing yet because demand is high, and supply is low.

When they do, it will probably be $500 over invoice, as it has been for the past Prius'.

The Costco salesman is a fleet representative from chosen dealerships.

He had offered to order my Model III with solar roof (because it is not available in So CA) and agreed that if Costco did offer their pricing before mine came in he would give me that pricing.

Because they got the Model III with solar package as an intended rental, they got a special deal so he could afford to take a little off the MSRP.

toyota has a bounty on your traction battery (the hybrid battery not the little one). they will pay you $200 (i think thats the amount) when you no longer need it, like in 15 years when your car is done. Toyota will recycle it. This is a good thing.
